A simple scheme for heating the seats in the car. Carbon cable in heated car seats. Do Four: Home Stretch

In most modern cars, among the additional options, such a nice thing as heated seats is offered. The presence of this option allows you to avoid hypothermia in the pelvic area, which often occurs in those who spend hours driving a car in the winter. What is there to hide, a warm seat is also extremely comfortable.

Do not be discouraged if your car does not have seat heating, because today we will tell you how to make it yourself and, mind you, get the result no worse than with regular heating.

What you need to install heated seats.

The heating element is a coil with thin tubes, which are the main heat accumulator. The heating element can be with or without a back. Which one is better - it's up to you!

Buttons for turning on and off heating (two-position) in the amount of 2 pcs.

Relay 4-pin with socket

Wires of different colors, terminals for connection

A set of tools and consumables: wrenches, screwdriver, scissors, electrical tape

When everything you need is at hand, you can begin the process of mounting the seats.

Step by step instructions for work.

1. First you need to unscrew the slides of the front seats, remove them from the car. For the convenience of performing all subsequent manipulations, we recommend bringing the seats into the apartment.

2. Now you need to remove the trim from the seats. Take extra care here not to damage the fabric of the seats. The upholstery is fastened with metal plates (or hooks) at the bottom of the seat, on its back side, and also in the front part along the curly contours. Just do not use brute force, so as not to damage the seat upholstery.

3. In the event that you plan to install heating not only on the seat, but also on the back, the trim will need to be removed from it as well. To do this, you need to pull out the plastic bushings for the head restraints, and unfasten the fabric from the fixing plates at the bottom of the backrest.

4. After removing the fabric, the foam insert of the seat will be released in front of you, so attach the heater to it, aligning it with the center of the seat. Then, circle the heater around the outline with a marker.

5. Now, along the outlined contours, apply double-sided adhesive tape, and stick the heater itself on top of it. This is done so that when the seat fabric is further fixed, the heater does not slip to the side, but remains clearly in the place that we marked out for it.

7. We return the upholstery of the seat to its place, and install the seats themselves back on the car.

The main part of the installation is completed, then let's talk about connecting the heated seats with your own hands. How to connect seat heating?

Seat installation diagram:

1. Determine the location where the seat heating on/off buttons will be located. The ideal option is either the center console (if there is room for installing buttons), or in the gap between the gearshift and the handbrake. This arrangement of switches will be the most successful in terms of ergonomics and comfort.

2. In a decorative plastic casing (if any), we make inserts for buttons, and then we install them. At the same time, we connect the electrics (it is best to power the heated seats from the cigarette lighter, additionally putting the fuse on the heating).

3. Based on the suggested diagram, it is necessary to connect the wires from the heated seats to the buttons, relay, cigarette lighter and ignition switch (if you want to protect yourself by automatically turning off the heating after turning off the ignition).

4. We insulate all contacts and check the operation of seat heating (button functionality, heating uniformity, etc.)

5. We carry out the final assembly of the interior, hide the wiring under the carpet.

That's all, the process of installing stationary seat heating can be considered complete. You ask, wouldn't it be easier to buy pads for heated seats that work through the cigarette lighter? Of course, you can do this, but it’s one thing to put the system on and forget it, and it’s quite another to experience inconvenience with this very lining, which falls off all the time, fidgets around the seat, and interferes with protruding wires.

Undoubtedly, we all love comfort and coziness, the presence of which can hardly be said, for example, in a car with a leather interior frozen in winter. And the question here is not in the upholstery of the cabin, but in the inevitable discomfort in frosty times. Do-it-yourself seat heating is the best way to avoid this discomfort.

Installing car seat heating is a rather responsible matter, especially for those who are “you” with an electrician, therefore, in order to avoid force majeure situations, be sure to consult an electrician or an experienced installer of home-made seat heating systems before getting down to business.

Buy or make?

In the modern market of auto parts and accessories, you can easily find heating removable covers (capes) and even entire heated seats. Their low cost and ease of connection are undoubted advantages, therefore, if finances allow, as they say, do not show off and buy a ready-made version.

Of course, if there is no money for it, you will have to do everything yourself.

What you need.

  • Nichrome wire 0.5 mm in diameter and 10 meters long.
  • Relay.
  • Button.
  • Wires and connectors for mounting the heater in the car.

Do-it-yourself seat heating: instructions.

  1. First, you need to make 4 spirals from the wire: it is most convenient to do this with a wooden beam and two nails driven into it (without hats, they should be bitten off) at a distance of 4 cm from each other - just wind the wire around the nails in a figure eight, forming spirals.

  1. Find a piece of fabric, preferably denim, that is the right size for your car seat heating (approximately 30cm x 30cm). Using a sewing machine, stitch 4 rows of spirals parallel to each other to the selected fabric flap. Connect the spirals with wires. The power of such a heater reaches 40W. Connect the resulting structure through a relay to a power source (cigarette lighter).

Unfortunately, this type of seat heating, regardless of whether it is homemade or bought in a special store, has a number of fairly significant drawbacks.

  • There is a risk of getting burned, because no one gives a 100% guarantee that any of the wires will not fail, igniting right under its warmed owner.
  • Such covers are often characterized by uneven or spasmodic heating.
  • This heating element is connected to the power source through the cigarette lighter socket. However, at present, many drivers use this connector to connect a navigator, a DVR, etc., and a splitter in this situation cannot be a way out of the situation, because seat heating requires a considerable current consumption, which is disproportionate to several connections to the network at once, therefore the driver or his passengers will have to choose what is more important at the moment: warm up or drive according to the directions of the navigator, for example.
  • Another point: the considered heating option is very inconvenient to use due to the presence of wires in its design that interfere with the driver, and passengers from the rear seats do not have the opportunity to warm up in this way at all, unless, of course, you extend the wires leading to the relay.

Based on the described disadvantages of the above heating method, we will consider the built-in version of the heating elements. Such a solution to the issue can rightfully frighten many car owners, because, in addition to assembling the structure itself, the driver faces a difficult task in installing it. However, this option will solve many of your problems in one fell swoop (the wires are hidden, the interior has not been changed, the cigarette lighter socket will remain free, because all elements are connected directly to the car's wiring), providing an opportunity to warm up in winter frosts not only to the driver and passenger sitting in the front seat, but also to the “guests” from the back sofa.

How to make built-in heated seats with your own hands?

First you need to purchase the so-called backbone of the entire structure - heating elements. Why buy rather than make your own? The issue is your safety. Since the elements are built-in, and any inaccuracy in independent work cannot be identified and eliminated in a very short safe period of time, it is better and more reliable to use ready-made elements. Their choice is quite large. We will focus on the domestic manufacturer Emelya (Russia), whose product quality is not inferior to reliable Germans, and the price is much more pleasant.

Included with this set you will find an electronic temperature controller and protection against overheating.

The heating element in "Emel" is represented by an armored cable or carbon fiber.

Additionally, you will need:

  • Screwdriver Set,
  • wrenches for disassembling the chair,
  • plastic clamps,
  • scissors,
  • knife with interchangeable blades
  • insulating tape,
  • multimeter,
  • heat shrink tubing,
  • pliers, marker,
  • soldering iron,
  • double-sided tape (glue 88 is possible),
  • stranded wire 2.5 mm sq. section - for wiring.

To begin with, decide on all the control buttons and their fastening, so that if necessary (suddenly they will not be in their regular place) to purchase suitable for this car.

Now we can get down to business.

  1. Disassemble the seats: start with the headrest, then remove the plastic elements, then the seat upholstery, making room for the heating mats. To remove the "back" trim, remove the plastic bushings for the head restraints.

  1. Attach the sheet with heating elements to the seat foam, marking its dimensional contours with a marker. Following the marked lines, stick strips of double-sided tape or use glue 88. If there is a temperature sensor, also install it on the foam rubber.
  2. Glue (attach) the heating mats to the space provided on the seats. Here you should pay special attention to the location of the wires. Do not forget that on the driver's seat they should be on the right, and on the passenger seat - on the left. Pull out the power wires.

  1. Install the "native" skin on the supplemented foam base, using plastic clamps in the places necessary for this. Also, return all plastic elements, head restraints to their original position and install the seats in their original places. In this case, the wiring should be laid in the places where the power supply and controls are connected.

A very important point: the wires leading to the heating mats from the regulators must not be laid tight, leave such a margin that will allow you to calmly move the chair back if necessary.

  1. It's time to connect the heating elements. In this matter, the instructions that come with the installation kit should help you. If she is not an assistant for you in connecting the unit to the on-board network, it would be better and more correct to turn to professionals for help. If you are confident in the correctness of your actions and are ready to try to deal with this stage on your own, we recommend that you pay attention to certain recommendations:

  • It is necessary to detect the power supply (12V), ignition and backlight circuits with a multimeter.
  • Connect the positive wire of the thermal relay to the ignition lock connector, which is powered only after the key is turned.
  • Connect the power cable to the positive terminal of the battery through the fuse.
  • Bring the negative wire to the "mass", to the cigarette lighter contacts - the button backlight wires.
  • All connections, of course, must be soldered and insulated. Then you can check the system.

An important point: a properly assembled system will only work when the ignition is on. Otherwise, you run the risk of not starting the car someday.

Only one question remained unanswered: what about the rear sofa of the cabin and its heating? For those who constantly travel with their family in a car, this is a very important point. But there is nothing complicated here either: the installation and connection of the rear seat heating system is similar to that described above. The only difference is that for one sofa you will need two sets of heating elements.

Do-it-yourself seat heating installation

The cold season in Russia lasts about six months. Although there are regions in the country with a longer winter period and a much harsher climate than in the middle lane. In this case, the installation of heated seats will not only not be an unnecessary frill, but in fact is a first necessity.

Middle-class cars of recent years are equipped with this option from the factory, but earlier models or the budget level of transport deprive the driver and passengers of such an element of comfort. To solve such a problem, you can contact the station and order interior tuning, which will cost the car owner a decent amount. However, there is an option when you can reduce costs and get the desired result. You need to do everything yourself.

Types of "non-factory" automatic seat heating

Before you make heated seats with your own hands, you need to find out what are the methods of non-standard seat heaters in the car. Since not all variants of the proposed designs are universal, it is possible to decide in advance on the choice of a suitable local heater.

Seat heating

Built-in heaters

There are standard kits on sale, for example, "Emelya", which contains a kit for installing a heater under the seat upholstery. You will need to add a few fasteners to such a kit and you can mount it on the two front seats.

The cost of such a set is on average about four thousand rubles.

If you order work to install it at the station, then about the same amount will need to be paid for installation. Although the result will be satisfactory.

  • after installation it is ready to work;
  • inexpensive cost for self-assembly;
  • aesthetic appearance;
  • the same heater for two chairs at once;
  • the ability to adjust modes.
  • it is necessary to open the upholstery of the seats;
  • there are cheaper options;
  • no rear row heating included;
  • Not all beginners can perform high-quality installation.

Heating "Emelya"

Heating capes

Not all local heaters need to be installed. Indeed, in the southern regions of the country, temporary devices can be dispensed with. In this case, a temporary heated cape on the car seat is quite suitable. Its installation does not require major alterations in the cabin. Most often it is connected through the cigarette lighter socket.

The cost of the product varies by manufacturer. The minimum prices are from 800 to 2000 rubles per copy for one chair.

Most often there are countries producing this product:

Product weight from 0.6 to 0.9 kg. Heating can be either only for the lower part of the chair, or complex, including a warm "back". The seat heating button with this design is not located on the cable connected to the power outlet. No installation is required.

Seat warmers

  • minimum cost;
  • can be bought for only one driver's seat;
  • quick assembly and dismantling;
  • a large selection of manufacturers;
  • to turn on, you do not need to output separate wires, a cigarette lighter socket is enough;
  • several preset modes;
  • a large number of colors and styles.
  • not quite aesthetic appearance;
  • for the second chair, you need an additional connector in the cigarette lighter or a "tee";
  • often come across low-quality fakes that quickly fail.

Self-made heaters

Such a device can be made at home. Do-it-yourself seat heating will cost less than bought in a store. Almost any schoolchild who had lessons in physics and labor will be able to assemble it.

Adjustment wheels for nargev

  • low cost;
  • there are accessories for it in almost any home;
  • you can set any power, shape and make connection methods;
  • made independently without outside help;
  • can be connected directly, leaving the cigarette lighter free.
  • it turns out not always an aesthetic appearance;
  • it is required to correctly calculate the power so as not to overload the battery or burn the wiring in the car;
  • when mounting the button, a tie-in into the panel or other parts of the plastic interior is required.

How to choose the right design

The main choice of local heaters in the car consists of German, Chinese, Polish or Russian products. The practice of using such products speaks in favor of products from Germany and from domestic companies. Although the prices for European goods are higher, their reliability is also guaranteed.

Various degrees of protection against overheating and high-quality adjustment with a thermal relay are mounted in such heaters. Our companies, such as Avtoterm, which offer cheaper products, are not much inferior in quality. However, armored cables and the presence of fuses also take care of the safety inside the cabin.

In the case of buying Asian products, the risk of receiving an unreliable product increases.

You can often hear about broken buttons, failure of the mode control, or melting of too thin wires. Products from unknown companies can cause a fire in the car, so when buying, you must ask for a warranty card and check the manufacturer's certificate.

Installation of the Emelya kit

For the correct connection of this heater, there is an assembly diagram on the packaging box that determines the algorithm of actions. There are also ways to connect electricians to the car control unit. Before starting installation, it is necessary to dismantle the seats from the passenger compartment.

Step 1. Dismantle the chairs Step 2. Remove the upholstery Step 3. Fix the heating plates Step 4. Assemble the structure Step 5. Draw out the contacts for the button and adjustment Step 5. Connect to the wiring according to the diagram

You need to know that some cars are equipped with a side airbag cartridge. When removing the seats, it must be handled carefully so that there is no drawdown.

Heating sheets are mounted under the skin, so it is removed from the seat and back of the chair. Next, you need to fix the heaters in their places, while removing the contacts for switching on. Next, a heating start button is installed on the instrument panel and connected to the seat and the wiring harness removed from the fuses.

You need to connect with the wire from the battery, which shows a voltage of 12V only in the second position of the ignition key. Thus, an additional protection against overheating is established.

The cable connecting the heating element with the button can be packed in a corrugated tube, and then hidden under the passenger compartment carpet.

Self-made car seat heater

For the manufacture of a heater, you will need a nichrome wire of about 10 m, with a diameter of 0.5 mm. We form four spirals, on a fixture made of a wooden block and two hammered nails, at a distance of 40 mm, curling the wire in a “figure eight”, and not in a circle. For clarity, see the photo report below.

Step 1. We make a device for making a heating element Step 2. We fix the heater on the base and connect the wires to it Step 3. Remove the upholstery and install the heater Step 4. Connect the wiring to the heater, regulator and button Step 5. Make an aesthetic appearance in the cabin

Next, you need a dense natural fabric, preferably from old jeans or a military camouflage uniform, without synthetics and flammable materials. Connect the resulting spirals in a parallel way. For power supply, you need 12 V. The estimated power of the structure is about 40 watts. Additionally, a relay is mounted.

Conclusion

You can equip the car with seat heaters for every taste and budget. For those who do not want to remove the upholstery, chair covers are suitable. For residents of cold regions, it is more reasonable to equip the vehicle with stationary heating of the front and rear seats.

Do-it-yourself seat heating: we consider a good example

Every time the winter cold again reminds of additional warming. For even the ancient people bequeathed to keep their feet warm. Only now heated seats are not included in the basic package of many cars. You're going to have to freeze up a bit. There are two options here: buy this “additional comfort” or make your own car seat heating. A survey of closest friends - notorious motorists - shows that the second is more reliable. Purchased heaters are expensive and often break down.

The lack of basic seat heating can be easily compensated for on your own

Do it once: we think over and mentally tune in!

Before proceeding to the list of materials, we determine what we already have. Here we have three options:

  • remake a ready-made, but broken heating;
  • make from scratch;
  • a costly and troublesome way - to make a heating built into the seat.

With a ready-made rug, it turns out much easier. No need to think about dense thermal insulation fabrics, look for them and sew them on a typewriter. Everything is already thought out. It remains to replace the heating element.

Another way to warm up in the winter is to use the stove in the car from the cigarette lighter. How to choose it - look at us.

What winter tire markings mean can be found in this material.

The heating element built into the seat is always with you in the car. You can display a button on the panel, and pretend that it was so. Difficulties sometimes arise with the analysis of the seat itself. And if the bottom is pliable, then the back is much more difficult to disassemble. But still understands!

We will take the second option as a basis. It is on its basis that work is built in all cases. Knowing the theory, you will cope with more difficult options.

Do Two: Let's go shopping!

List of materials:

  1. Nichrome wire diameter 0.5 mm - 10 meters.
  2. The bar is thicker.
  3. 2 nails.
  4. Old jeans.
  5. Scissors.
  6. Pencil.
  7. Sewing machine.
  8. Button.
  9. The wire.
  10. Plug for car cigarette lighter.
  11. Connectors.
  12. Heat reflector.

Nichrome wire can be bought at almost any hardware store.

Do Three: let's get started!

  • Cut out 2 rectangles from old unnecessary jeans. They do not necessarily cover the surface of the seat.
  • We draw on one of them how the heating wire will pass: in zigzags or waves. It is better to choose zigzags. It is more convenient in drawing and bending. Although, who cares...

And now our fabric has become noticeably more interesting than before!

  • Now the nichrome wire will lie right on the drawing.
  • First you need to fold it in a zigzag. The fastest way to do this is with a bar and nails.
  • We drive two nails into a wooden block at a distance of 40 mm.
  • Now we consistently and monotonously wind the wire between the nails in a figure eight. There are just enough turns to cover the entire drawing.
  • We transfer the wire zigzags to the fabric.
  • We sew on a typewriter each zigzag 2 times. Above and below. The better we fix this design, the safer it will be to use. Attention: if the wires touch somewhere, there will be a short circuit!
  • We close our workpiece on top with a second piece of jeans. We sew, leaving a hole for the output of wires.
  • A thermal reflector can be sewn on from below. This will protect the seat from overheating.
  • From above, the most used place, it is better to lay with foam rubber and another layer of thick fabric. This is done so that the heating element does not accidentally break the booty.
  • We finish along the perimeter with a few more lines on a sewing machine.
  • With the help of a connector, we bring the wire through the “window” in the fabric.

Testing. We need a 12 volt DC power supply, such as will be in the car. You can use a computer power supply.

Do Four: Home Stretch

Where to power the invention in the car? The good old cigarette lighter will help out. We connect in series: invention - button - plug. You can do without a button, but then the seat heating works while the plug is in the cigarette lighter.

Phew! .. Exhale freely. Works. I'm done! The chair heats up in 2-3 minutes. Not a bad start!

Reviews of those who have already mastered it themselves:

Owner-electrician: At first, it was not possible to buy a ready-made “heater”. Decided to do it on my own. I did the electric myself. Wife sewed, but under strict guidance. Tested according to instructions on a computer. The cork was not knocked out. So, nothing is closed anywhere. Everything worked out right away. Let's go now and enjoy. What good fellows we are!

Spouses-entrepreneurs: We bought a ready-made heated seat in a car shop. He worked with us for two weeks. And suddenly it stopped heating. There was nothing to loose. They began to disassemble. As a result, it turned out that the heating element was torn. Based on the finished one, they made their own adjustments, put a home-made heater. It works now. We've been testing for a few months now!

Here's what an anonymous appraiser at the Bureau of Expertise says: Initially, I did it myself. Because I only trust what I'm sure of. Plus, it's easy and fun. The only thing is to be careful. It's still electric! Turn it off in time to avoid a fire. And so - it works, it warms.

Do Five: Berry Machine Again!

Based on this simple design, you can come up with something more chic. Build, build, build... Equip chairs with heaters or make a device that any motorist would envy. There is no limit to perfection, if only the hands grow from the right place. Further, it is only up to your imagination, ingenuity and hands that cannot be lowered. Warm winter to you and your "Swallow"!

How to organize seat heating with your own hands and not make mistakes?

Not every modern car is equipped with heated seats; such equipment is often available only in top trim levels. And although the debate over the usefulness of the option does not subside, most drivers still prefer this comfort feature and install the heating kit themselves.

What kind of seat heating can you install yourself: types of heating elements

The auto accessories market at the present time is able to satisfy almost any requirements of motorists. This fully applies to products intended for heating seats, which are available in two types:

  1. Covers and capes.
  2. Embedded.

Covers and capes

Before you make heated seats with your own hands, you need to know that the first option is low in price and easy to install. It is enough to put a cover on a chair, connect, and the set is ready to work. Usually the heater is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, but terminal connections are also possible. However, this type of organization of heating has a number of significant disadvantages:

  • low electrical and fire safety;
  • uneven heating of the area;
  • discomfort from wires;
  • violation of the interior layout;
  • the impossibility of using capes on the rear seats.

There is one more problem. Many drivers include other gadgets in the cigarette lighter socket, for example, a GPS navigator, a DVR, a phone charger. The use of a splitter is not a way out of this situation - the heating element consumes a significant amount of energy and the fuses may not withstand. In addition, there is a threat to the fire safety of the car.

Embedded Models

Car owners who decide to organize seat heating with their own hands, this option confuses the difficulties of installation. Here they can be encouraged - detailed recommendations from experienced motorists will help everyone who knows how to hold a screwdriver in their hands to complete the installation. It is enough to carefully study the proposed technology and have a nominal set of tools. In addition, the advantages of embedded systems compared to capes are obvious:

  • the possibility of equipping with heating not only the front seats, but also the rear ones;
  • secret connection, the wiring is laid under the interior trim;
  • direct connection to the on-board network, the cigarette lighter socket is available for other consumers;
  • the profile of the chair and the interior component of the cabin do not change.

Since everything is clear with heating covers and capes and their installation causes absolutely no questions to anyone, then below we will talk about embedded systems.

Briefly about the choice of heating elements

The range of elements that are mounted directly into the body of the chair is quite extensive. This allows you to make the best choice based on the design features of the cabin and its components, as well as the financial capabilities of the owner. The most popular products are from Russia, China, Taiwan and Germany. Here are some examples of models:

  • mounting kits from Weaco (Germany);
  • built-in blocks "Emelya" from the company "Teplodom" (Russia);
  • sets "VO" from the group "Avtoterm" (Russia);
  • sets from Megalight (Taiwan);
  • kits from Autoline International (China).

Naturally, all models differ both in terms of workmanship and price. Owners who already know how to properly heat seats with their own hands assure that the high cost of German equipment is offset by its reliability and versatility. Its elements are equipped with protection against overheating and have several modes of operation.

Russian samples of heating technology are practically not inferior to German ones; armored cable or carbon fiber is used as a heating element. The kit includes an electronic temperature controller and overheating protection.

At the price, products from China are attractive, but most often this is where all the advantages end. As our motorists note, the main problems with such kits are:

  • breakage of the power button;
  • short circuit or broken wiring;
  • uneven heating of the plane of the chair.

Practice: how to make stationary seat heating with your own hands?

So, the choice is made and the heating kit is bought. It remains to prepare the necessary materials and tools. These include:

  • a set of screwdrivers and wrenches for disassembling the chair;
  • electrical tape and heat shrink tubing;
  • plastic clamps;
  • multimeter;
  • scissors and a knife with replaceable blades;
  • pliers;
  • soldering iron;
  • marker;
  • glue 88 or double-sided tape (sometimes in the installation kit).

In addition, the set of materials may vary depending on the configuration of the product. For example, if there are no wires or a fuse connector, then they need to be purchased. Stranded wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm² is suitable for wiring.

Before organizing the heating of the front seats with your own hands, special attention should be paid to the placement of the control buttons that come with the kit. It is important to study the way they are attached and the dimensions, since there is a chance that the buttons will not fit into their regular place. Then you have to choose another place or purchase controls for a particular car. Further, all work is performed according to the following scheme:

  • dismantle the seats and carefully remove them from the car;
  • disassemble the seats, remove the headrest and all plastic elements; work better at the table;
  • remove the upholstery of the seats, which in most cases is fixed from below with metal rings or plates; you can not remove it completely - it is enough to make room for heating mats;
  • remove the trim from the back, for this you need to remove the plastic bushings for the head restraints;
  • lay the heating sheet on the foam base and mark its contours with a marker;
  • if there is a temperature sensor, fix it on the foam rubber;
  • stick strips of double-sided tape along the marked lines or apply glue 88;
  • fix the heating mats on the back and on the seat; at the same time, be sure to pay attention to the position of the wires - for the driver's seat they should be on the right, and for the passenger - on the left;
  • bring out the power wires;
  • install the casing on the foam base; in places where it is necessary, use plastic clamps;
  • reinstall all plastic elements and headrests;
  • install the seats in their original places and lay the wiring to the locations of the controls and power connection.

Important! Motorists who already know how to make stationary seat heating with their own hands recommend paying attention to the laying of wires that go from the regulators to the heating mats. In no case should they be laid tight, it is necessary to leave a margin in case the chairs need to be moved away.

Connecting heating elements

Each self-respecting manufacturer completes the installation kit with instructions for connecting the unit to the vehicle's on-board network. If this stage causes certain difficulties or you are unsure of your abilities, then it is better to immediately contact electricians.

For those who are self-confident, the following recommendations will be useful:

  • using a multimeter, you should detect the 12 V power supply, backlight and ignition circuits;
  • connect the positive wire of the thermal relay to the ignition lock connector, on which power appears only after turning the key;
  • connect the power wire through the fuse to the positive terminal of the battery;
  • connect the negative wire to the "mass";
  • connect the button backlight wires to the cigarette lighter contacts;
  • solder and insulate all connections;
  • check system operation.

For example, the connection diagram of the Emelya UK kit is shown below.

Important! With a properly assembled circuit, heating will only function when the ignition is on. Otherwise, by forgetting to turn off the system, you run the risk of starting the engine “from the pusher” or by lighting it in the morning, because the battery will be discharged.

How to make your own built-in heated rear seats on a car?

This option is quite rare on budget class cars. For some motorists, it is not of interest, but for those who have a large family, a warm rear sofa will not be superfluous. The technology of installation and connection of equipment is identical to that described above.

To implement the built-in rear seat heating, you will need two heating kits. Despite the fact that the installation process is carried out by analogy with the front seats, it is worth briefly considering the main transitions:

  • choose a place for the installation of control buttons;
  • remove the trim from the back, it is not necessary to do this completely - it is enough to release only the front and side parts;
  • fix the heating mats and lead out the wires;
  • remove the upholstery from the sofa according to the same principle;
  • fix the sensors and the heating cloth, bring out the supply wires;
  • lay the wires in the tunnel between the chairs under the cover;
  • install buttons and connect according to the diagram.

As a “mass”, some motorists recommend using a seat belt mount, the contact is quite reliable. The power buttons are placed by everyone at their discretion. For example, it can be the back of the front armrest or the door. This option allows passengers to adjust the temperature at their discretion.

We have been doing this for many years and have vast practical experience in this work. We will install seat heaters quickly, efficiently, and give a long-term warranty on seat heaters. And then, seat heating, which we will install in your car, will delight you with its trouble-free operation for many years, and save you from the cold and the danger of a cold.

Heating elements are professionally installed on the seat and back under the "native" upholstery of each chair. What is the difference between built-in seat heating and a conventional seat heating cover sold in any auto shop? First of all, the fact that built-in seat heating is practically a stationary, factory version of seat heating. He will not hang out on the seat, as in the case of a cape, and "get off" from it. It will not be felt through the upholstery of the seat, it will not be visible at all. It will work reliably for years (WARRANTY - from 1 to 4 years!). It won't plug into the cigarette lighter like a seat warmer. AND car seat heating will be carried out with protection, and you, as a result, will get a very comfortable and useful function in the cold season, worthy of having a place in every modern car - HEATED SEATS. Heating elements are professionally installed on the seat and back under the "native" upholstery of each chair.

We are proud to report that we have NOT had a single case of burning seats, which we have equipped with built-in seat heaters!

heated seats with installation in your favorite car!

Many modern cars come standard with many useful options that should make the trip comfortable. One of these additions is heated seats. A warm chair will be especially appropriate in winter, when the temperature drops below 20 ° C. For men, prolonged contact with the cold surface of a car seat can lead to unpleasant illnesses. Therefore, with regular use of the car in winter, you can make seat heating with your own hands. It is possible to solve this problem in several ways.

Use of special capes

Today in the market of automotive accessories you can find removable devices for seat heating. They are covers or capes equipped with built-in heating elements. The main advantages of this method of heating the car seat are:

  • low cost;
  • ease of connection.

To install a cover or cape, you don’t have to go to a car service, even a novice car enthusiast can handle the job. But this type of seat heating also has several serious drawbacks.

  1. The main problem is the quality of the products. Car owners note cases when the cape ignites right under the driver. In this case, not only clothes deteriorate, but there is also a high risk of serious burns.
  2. Some covers and capes are characterized by uneven heating. Therefore, in some areas the temperature rises to 40˚С. Such heat adversely affects the reproductive function of a strong half of car owners.
  3. Another problem awaits a frozen motorist during the operation of heating capes and covers. The heating elements are connected to the on-board electrical network of the machine through the cigarette lighter socket. And today this connector is used to connect a DVR, GPS navigator, recharge a mobile device, etc. Using a splitter does not help in this situation, because the heating element has a large current consumption and the fuse simply will not withstand.
  4. The use of capes hides another hidden danger. Wires appear in the interior of the car, which can interfere with the driver while driving. And due to the insufficient length of the electrical wiring, it is not possible to use removable heating covers for car seats for rear passengers.

Benefits of built-in heating

Many car owners who are looking for ways to solve the problem of cold car seats are intimidated by built-in models due to the more complex installation. However, if you follow the recommendations of experienced motorists, then installing heated seats with your own hands will not be such a hopeless undertaking.

  1. The main advantage of built-in heating is the ability to connect not only the front but also the rear seats to the heat.
  2. The built-in heater is connected discreetly, the wires are hidden under the interior trim.
  3. The heating elements are connected directly to the car's electrical wiring, so the cigarette lighter socket will remain free.
  4. When the heater is introduced into the seat, the profile of the car seat does not change, so that the interior of the cabin does not deteriorate.

Choosing the optimal heating kit

The range of heating elements for installation in car seats is quite wide. The buyer can choose the best option based on the features of the car interior and self-confidence. Most often, motorists purchase products from Russian, German and Chinese companies. It is clear that they differ both in quality and in cost.

  1. Practice shows that the high price of German seat heating kits (like Weaco) is compensated by the highest degree of reliability. Heating systems are practical and versatile. They can be mounted not only on the front car seats, but also on the back. The heating element is equipped with several degrees of protection against overheating, and can also have two modes of operation.
  2. Serious competition for German goods is made up of domestic kits from such companies as Avtoterm and Teplodom. In terms of reliability and quality, Russian samples are practically not inferior to German giants. The heating sets are protected against overheating, and an armored cable is used as a heating element. Some models have an automatic shutdown feature in case of overheating.
  3. The most attractive price is products from China. Most often, this advantage is the only one, because Chinese heaters cannot boast of either quality or reliability. All the problems of cheap models arise from the use of the cheapest materials. Among the main problems with Chinese seat heating kits, motorists note:
    • frequent breakdowns of the power button;
    • wiring failure;
    • uneven heating of the seat;
    • electrical short circuit.

Seat heating installation sequence

Before you start installation work on installing the coolant, you need to pay attention to the size of the heating system control, as well as the method of attachment. The power buttons that come with the heating device do not always fit perfectly into the standard place on the dashboard. Sometimes the car owner has to purchase additional toggle switches or look for another place to install.

  • Despite the presence of protection against overheating, it is advisable to play it safe and prudently introduce a fuse into the electrical circuit. Then, in the event of a short circuit, the on-board network of the vehicle will not suffer. The wiring diagram for seat heating kits can be found on the Internet forums for motorists.
  • It is necessary to begin the installation of heating elements by disassembling the seat trim. This stage becomes the most difficult for the car owner, because it is important to remove the material without damage. Dismantling the car seat can take an unprepared person several hours. Approximately the same amount of time will be required to assemble the chair after installing the heater.
  • When connecting the installed heating, there are usually no difficulties if you act in accordance with the instructions and do not violate the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Usually one set of heaters consists of two elements that will be used in the front seats. If you need to make the "heating" of the rear seats, you will have to purchase an additional kit. The rear seat heating is installed in the same way.

It is difficult to imagine a modern car without all sorts of little things designed to make the trip as pleasant as possible. One such addition is heated seats. Sitting in a cold car seat when it is thirty degrees below zero is not particularly pleasant, worse than this can only be landing in a chair upholstered in leather. Meanwhile, many car owners are forced to do this every winter. The solution to the problem can be the installation of seat heating with your own hands.

In auto shops you can find capes or covers with heating elements, as well as built-in seat heating. The first two options do not require complex installation and are usually affordable, while the installation of the latter causes a lot of difficulties. You can, of course, contact the workshop, where they will do the work quickly and efficiently, but the cost of services will please few people. The option with a cape or cover at first glance seems to be the most preferable:

  • low cost;
  • ease of connection

however, this method of heating is not without flaws.

Why recessed seat heating is better

The first problem is that the quality of many capes leaves much to be desired. It is not uncommon for a cape to catch fire right under a person sitting on it. The risk of getting burned is quite high, not to mention the fact that the clothes will most likely be damaged.

The second problem is that capes heat up differently. In some, the temperature reaches 40 degrees, and this adversely affects the reproductive function in men.

The third problem lies in the fact that there is usually only one cigarette lighter socket in the car, therefore, it will be possible to connect only the heating of the driver's seat, and passengers, as a rule, also ride in the car. You can, of course, use a splitter, but the current consumption will be too large, and the fuse in the splitter will not withstand. In addition, when using capes and covers, extra wires appear in the cabin, which can interfere with driving. It is out of the question to use the covers on the rear seats of the car due to the insufficient length of the electrical cable.

Hidden installation and connection speaks in favor of built-in heating, the ability to install only heated front seats or all available ones. In this case, the cigarette lighter will remain free, because. heating is connected directly to the wiring. Finally, when using a cape, the profile of the chair changes slightly, which can cause some inconvenience. It is also important that a cape or cover does not always fit well into the interior of the cabin.

Selecting a heating kit for installation

The range presented in the stores is wide enough so that each customer can choose the appropriate kit for DIY installation. These are mainly products of German, Russian and Chinese manufacturers. As practice shows, German kits (for example, WEACO) are the most reliable, their only drawback is their high price. But they are absolutely universal, they can be used in any car, both in the front seats and in the rear seats. Such heating has several degrees of protection against overheating and two modes of operation.

As an alternative to German products, domestic kits produced by Teplodom and Avtoterm have proven themselves well. Their products are not inferior to German ones in terms of reliability, consumer qualities are also quite high. All models of built-in seat heating are protected from overheating by means of a thermal relay, they use an armored cable as a heating element. Some models have an automatic shutdown feature in case of overheating.

The most affordable are Chinese kits. Perhaps this is their only advantage, since there is no need to talk about reliability. Due to the fact that the cheapest materials are used in their production to reduce cost, such seat heating kits can easily break the power button, burn out the wiring, and heating is often uneven. We must not forget that a burned-out heating can cause a short circuit in the car's electrical wiring or a fire in the cabin. It is not worth the risk in this case, since the savings are very doubtful.

Do-it-yourself seat heating installation

Before proceeding with the installation with your own hands, you should pay attention to the operating mode switch buttons that come with the kit, or rather, their size and method of attachment. The button from the kit may not fit into a regular place on the panel, and you may either have to buy the right amount suitable for a particular car, or choose another place for installation. Button options and installation locations can be seen in the photo:

Despite the fact that high-quality kits have reliable protection, it is better to play it safe and install a fuse. In this case, the on-board network will not be affected when the heating fails. The connection diagram is usually attached, but if necessary, it can be found on the Internet. For example, below is a typical diagram for VAZ 2110-12 cars.

The installation of seat heating begins with the installation of heating elements under the seat trim. This is the most difficult part of the job, as you will have to completely remove the casing in order to properly install the heaters. For an untrained driver, one seat usually takes about four hours. Installation of heating elements in the rear seats takes about the same time.

Connecting the heated seats, as a rule, does not cause any special problems. The scheme that the manufacturer gives is quite detailed and understandable even for beginners.

One kit allows you to install seat heating for the driver and front passenger. If you also need heated rear seats, you will have to buy another set. The connection scheme will remain the same, i.e. installation will not cause additional difficulties.
