How to scent the air with essential oils. Essential oils for the home, fragrances for the home. Aroma recipe for insomnia and stress

Essential oil is a fragrant volatile substance released from flowers, seeds, roots, leaves, fruits, wood or resin of plants.

Oils give plants fragrance. The properties of oils depend on the type of plant, the conditions under which they are grown, the part used, and the production method. Often oils with different compositions and aroma are obtained from different parts of the same plant. Essential oils are obtained by distillation (from greens and barks), extraction (from inflorescences, petals and roots) and pressing (from peels and fruits).

Essential oils have a wide range of biological activities. Some of them are antiseptics, others are antispasmodics, others regenerate cells, and others calm or, on the contrary, excite the nervous system. At the same time, essential oils are potent agents that can not only help, but also harm if you do not follow the recommendations for use.

The table will help you understand the pharmacological properties of essential oils.

Application of essential oils

Essential oils should not be applied to the skin without a base. You should protect your eyes. Keep oils out of the reach of children. It is not recommended to use essential oils for pregnant women, as well as people prone to allergies.

Essential oils do not mix with water and are not used in their pure form. In cosmetology and medicine, essential oils are used with a base. It can be wax, honey, milk, cream. But most often these are so-called transport oils.

Transport (base) oils- these are oils of plant origin, both solid (for example, shea butter) and liquid (olive, sea buckthorn, almond, jojoba and others). They promote the penetration of essential oil into the body and provide a mild therapeutic effect.

Since ancient times, oriental beauties have used ethers as a means of self-care. Oils also add a therapeutic effect to cosmetic benefits.

Cosmetics with a neutral composition should be enriched. Products designed to solve specific problems (for example, anti-aging) are best used without additives.

There are many recipes for homemade cosmetics with essential oils. Here are some of them.

Aroma lamps and aroma stones

BhubateT/Shutterstock.com

Aroma lamps and aroma stones are used for aromatization of enclosed spaces and aromatherapy.

(or aroma pot) is a bowl into which water is poured and essential oil is added, and a candle is placed under it. As the water heats up, the air is filled with essential oil vapors.

Aromatization by lamp

  • Ventilate the room.
  • Pour warm water (50–55 ºС) into the bowl. The volume of the bowl is at least 50 ml, otherwise the water will evaporate too quickly.
  • Add essential oil: 2 drops for every 5 square meters. m area.
  • Light a candle. The minimum distance from the flame to the bowl is 10 cm.
  • The duration of the procedure is from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Add water periodically. Do not leave the lamp unattended.

Aroma stone It has a porous structure and retains odors for a long time. You can buy it or make it yourself from plaster. The peculiarity of the aroma stone is its local action. If the aroma from a lamp spreads throughout the room, then from a stone it spreads only a short distance. Therefore, aroma stone can be used even in the workplace.

Flavoring with stone

  • Apply 2-4 drops of oil to the stone.
  • Place the stone on a table, in a closet, bag or pocket.
  • Add oil as the smell dissipates.

Sachets are also made with essential oils. An aromatic bag with rose oil will give your linen and clothes a pleasant aroma, and a sachet with lavender on your bedside table will give you a sound sleep.

(or aroma medallions) are an accessory made of porous clay that easily absorbs and preserves odors for a long time.

Wearing it is especially important during flu epidemics. Ginger, cedar, eucalyptus, mint and other oils help the body fight viruses and strengthen the immune system.

How to use aroma pendants?

  • Select the oil according to its properties and smell.
  • Place 2-3 drops into the pendant.
  • After three days, refill the pendant.

These are the basic principles of using essential oils.

How do you use essential oils?

Aromatherapy is treated differently: some are passionate about it and see the results, some are indulgent, but nothing more, and some even consider this trend to be heresy. But even the most true skeptic is unlikely to argue with the fact that smells play an important role in our lives. And if so, then basic knowledge about the theory of aromas will not hurt anyone, right?

The fact is that our olfactory system (the system of perceiving and processing information about the surrounding world using the sense of smell) is a very ancient apparatus, much older than the logical apparatus. Different smells and aromas have different effects on different areas of the brain, some can calm and even cause drowsiness, others can excite, others can cause anxiety, others can make us feel hungry, etc. And the ability to use the power of smells to create “weather” in the house” is a very useful skill.

aromatherapy for home

There are two ways to scent a room. The most common are aroma lamps or incense burners: water is poured into a container, essential oil or a mixture of oils is dripped into the water, and a warming candle is placed down. A variation of this method can be considered the use of a fumigator, which our enterprising citizens have added to aromatherapy: essential oil is dripped onto the metal plate of the fumigator, after which the device is left on for 30-40 minutes.

The second method is to aromatize rooms using a glass or ceramic spray bottle (plastic spray bottles are not suitable, essential oils corrode plastic). This method, by the way, is very effective for sterilizing air during a flu epidemic, for example. Dissolve 5 drops of tea tree oil or myrrh in 1 tablespoon of alcohol, and pour this mixture into 1 liter of water in a spray bottle. Be sure to shake the solution before use.

Also, dried flowers and herbs are excellent for long-term aromatization; they absorb essential oils well and then evaporate their aroma for a long time. The classic method is a vase with dry buds and petals; oils can be dripped directly onto the flowers, then carefully mix the petals and leave. When the smell dissipates, you can simply apply the mixture again. Aromatherapists advise taking a vase with a narrow neck, dripping oils or a mixture of oils into it, putting a bouquet of dried flowers and sealing the neck with wax - the bouquet will scent the room for a long time.

Cabinets are scented using the same principle - dried herbs and flowers are stuffed into a plastic or fabric bag, essential oil is dripped onto them, after which the bag is tied (holes are pierced in the plastic bag) and placed in the cabinet. Our grandmothers' classic recipe for fighting moths: 5 k of lavender essential oil per bag, it is better to put one bag in each compartment of the closet.

aromatic mixtures for home

So, let's make an aromatic mixture. All main aromas can be divided into groups:

  • calming oils: geranium, lavender, patchouli, ylang-ylang, lemon balm, neroli, rose, cedar, valerian;
  • essential oils used for nervous fatigue: mint, marjoram, cloves, rosemary, lemon, thyme, basil, camphor, ginger;
  • essential oils used for depression: bergamot, geranium, lavender, ylang-ylang, lemongrass, cedar, jasmine, lemon balm, violet, cedar, vanilla, yarrow, neroli;
  • oils used for increasing tone and performance: peppermint, bergamot, eucalyptus, lemongrass, patchouli, rosemary, geranium, clary sage, neroli, lemon balm, orange, rose, rosewood, ylang-ylang, cedar, grapefruit;
  • erotic oils: ylang-ylang, patchouli, jasmine, rose, grapefruit, sandalwood, vetiver.

In the aroma lamp you can use both pure oil and pre-prepared mixtures. Properly composed mixtures are barely noticeable, the smell is not overwhelming, it is barely felt. If one of the smells is too aggressive and you constantly notice it and think about it, then it doesn’t suit you, make a different recipe.

Here are a few recipes from the famous aromatherapist L. Dmitrievskaya. If there are constant quarrels in the house, and all family members are tense, then you can try a little defuse the situation using a mixture:

tension reducing mixture:

* lavender - 2 drops;
* geranium - 1 drop;
* lemon balm - 3 drops.

This mixture has a subtle herbal aroma that calms and relaxes, you want to stop making a fuss and lie down in the village, counting the stars in the summer night sky.

mixture that improves mental performance

In the room where the child does his homework, you can use the mixture, enhancing brain activity:

* clary sage - 2 drops;
* ylang-ylang - 1 drop;
* grapefruit - 3 drops;
* lemongrass - 2 drops;
* rosemary - 2 drops.

And if the child is afraid to fall asleep and remain alone in the room, then fight fear Another mixture will help:
myrrh - 2 drops;
chamomile - 1 drop;
neroli - 2 drops.

relaxing mixture

Depending on the tasks, in the bedroom (the proportion is given for a room of 15-20 m2, if the room is smaller, reduce the volume of each oil by a drop) you can place a smoker with relaxing aroma:

* cinnamon - 3 drops;
* lemon balm - 4 drops;
* chamomile - 3 drops;
* lavender - 4 drops.

erotic mixture

And if relaxation is not part of your plans, then try it exciting mixture:

* Ylang-ylang – 2 drops
* Limette - 2 drops
* Rose - 1 drop
* Sandalwood – 1 drop

You should not pour more oil into the aroma lamp than is indicated in the recipe - too strong and strong a smell will most likely lead to the opposite of the desired result.

Try it, aromatherapy is interesting!

Aromatic essential oils and their use is a hot topic for everyone who strives to create comfort at work and at home. The use of esters in everyday life is not limited to the use of these products for cosmetic purposes; with the help of oils, you can influence human life and at the same time engage in the prevention and even treatment of certain diseases.

Essential oils can relieve tension, improve emotional and physical well-being, significantly strengthen the immune system and calm the nerves. Home daily aromatherapy is a simple and reliable way to improve the quality of life and help all family members improve their health.

You do not need to buy any special equipment for aromatizing rooms. It is enough to purchase one or several aroma lamps, which can become not only a source of health, but also a sufficient decoration for the interior.

Aromatic oils should be selected taking into account the purpose of the room and the time of day. For workrooms and office spaces Aromas that stimulate brain function are suitable. In the first half of the day, rosemary, juniper and lavender esters can be excellent stimulants.

A few drops of these ethers are enough to wet clean the room, wipe tables and window sills. A jar of water into which 2-3 drops of ethers are dripped can be placed near the heating device.

1 drop of rosemary essential oil, which is dripped onto a light bulb, helps to wake up and easily start the working day.

In the afternoon you can use the following composition:

4 drops of lemon oil, 2k. pine oil and 1k. cloves and tangerine. Use an aroma lamp or a container of water. This amount of oils is enough to aromatize a room of 15m2.

An aromatic mixture of cloves, lemon (1k each) and mint, coriander (2k each) will help maintain performance and not get sick during viral infections. If you experience headaches during work, fatigue appears, and a sharp loss of strength is felt, then you need to inhale the aroma of geranium, rose or lemon, or even better, a composition of these esters (1 drop each).

In the bedroom It is appropriate to use lavender or. A couple of drops of these esters will help relieve stress and sleep well. To enhance sensuality in intimate relationships, take a bath: 5 drops of ylang-ylang and 5 drops of neroli or do a relaxing massage with these esters (100 ml of peach or almond oil and 2 k each of ylang-ylang and neroli).

You can scent the air in the bedroom with a composition of ylang-ylang, rose, sandalwood and neroli, 2 drops each (per 18m2). For aromatization, it is best to use an aroma lamp. If there is no lamp, then use a vase or other beautiful vessel, pour warm or hot water into it and drop ethers into it.

Aromatherapy for children can be a very important link in the chain of preventive measures to prevent colds and viral diseases.

Children love warm and sweet smells: orange, tangerine, cinnamon, petitgrain. You need to take 1 drop of these oils and add them to the aroma lamp. If the child is capricious, cries and sleeps poorly, then use esters of valerian, palmarosa and ylang-ylang to scent the children's room. Take 2 drops of all essential oils.

For teenagers, especially during tests and exams, use the aromas of ginger, leuzea and lemon in a ratio of 5:2:4. Buy your child an aroma medallion and drop 1 drop of oil into it every day. To improve brain function - rosemary, to prevent viral infections - fir, pine or juniper, to improve mood - orange or tangerine.

In the hallway and living room use a mixture: pine, lavender, mint, lemon (2 drops each) or lavender (2 drops), bergamot, rose and tangerine (1 drop each). Aromatizing the air in your apartment will help you protect yourself from viruses, feel the comfort and warmth of home, and get rid of unpleasant odors.

You can make your own car fragrance from essential oils. Place a pad in the machine and add a few drops of lavender, juniper and rosemary or rose, mint and lemon using a syringe.

The following method is also suitable for aromatizing a car or room:

Take a strip of filter paper, drop 4-5 drops of a mixture of essential oils on it: pine, bergamot and lemon in a ratio of 1:2:2 or a mixture of lavender, bergamot, rose and tangerine in a ratio of 2:1:1:1.

In the kitchen Always keep eucalyptus and lavender essential oils on hand. They will be useful to you for household burns, and to aromatize the air, use a mixture of oils: mint, lemon and pine (1 part each) or geranium, lemon and lavender (1 part each). These aromas neutralize kitchen odors and freshen the air.

We remove unpleasant odors from everywhere!

1. The aroma of freshness.

Before you start vacuuming, soak a piece of cotton wool with a few drops of lavender and suck it up with the vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner will leave a delicate “Provençal” aroma everywhere along its route. The aroma can be replaced with your favorite one - for example, orange oil will add a fresh citrus scent, pine oil will create the cool atmosphere of a shady pine forest.

2. Clean refrigerator.

Dampen a porous clay stone or regular cheesecloth with 1 drop of lavender essential oil and 1 drop of lemon oil (this will cause the essential oils to evaporate faster) and place them on the refrigerator door. Renew essential oils periodically.

3. Fresh trash can.

Wash and dry your trash bin, place 1 drop of lavender oil and 1 drop of tea tree oil on an incense stone, piece of gauze or cotton swab and place in the bottom.

4. How to “refresh” the microwave.

Place 3 drops of lemon or mint essential oil into a container of water. Leave for 3 minutes.

5. A fragrant toilet.

Use a small shelf where you can put 2-3 aroma stones the size of small cookies. Apply lavender, ylang-ylang or pine oils to the stones. Update them every week. This will fill the toilet with a delicate scent and improve the atmosphere.

6. Nice underwear.

There are 2 ways: either you add a terry mitten to the clothes dryer, onto which you drip 7 drops of lavender, mint, rose or eucalyptus (or any other oil of your choice), or add 3 drops of the same oils to the water to add to the iron.

Essential oils are non-greasy and won't stain your laundry!

7. Any surfaces.

Add 30 drops of lavender, tea tree and/or lemon oil (30 drops - all, not each!) to 1 liter of vinegar. Shake well. This simple and economical composition perfectly cleans and disinfects any surfaces. Wipe ashtrays with the same composition.

8. Removing scale and unpleasant odors from sinks, sinks, bathtubs, pots, and electric kettles.

Use the above composition (to clean and disinfect any surfaces): synthetic vinegar is the best descaling agent. It is more effective when heated, so you can easily pour the liquid into a kettle of boiling water and leave it to “infuse” for a few minutes to an hour. Your kettle will be in immaculate condition and without a single germ - thanks to essential oils. By pouring a few drops of the composition into the pipe of the kitchen sink and draining the bathtub, and then running a stream of boiling water from the tap for a few minutes, you will get rid of the unpleasant odor from there.

9. Room deodorant.

Pour a few drops of your favorite oil (mint, orange, cedar, sandalwood) into a spray bottle of water. Shake well and spray the room. The same effect is achieved by adding inexpensive perfumes with aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate and other goodies. Repeat 2-3 times a week. This will also help get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke or burnt food (combine with pre-ventilation).

10. And we’ll get rid of insects too.

Rather than using toxic insecticides that are harmful to both humans and pets, which also smell bad, it is better to spray essential oils - lavender, cedar or eucalyptus - in the air. Don't have a sprayer? Then add a few drops to a container of hot water or even on pieces of cotton wool and spread them around the room

Home aromatization is perhaps the most common way to use essential oils. In ancient times, essential oils were burned in sanctuaries.

Isn’t your home your personal temple? Let's look at the main ways to cope with bad odors and help improve the atmosphere in your home or office.

Why scent rooms?

There are many reasons for this, here are just a few:

  • To get rid of bad odors. Each room has its own unique smell, and these smells are not always pleasant. With the help of essential oils, you can provide yourself with exactly the atmosphere you need.
  • For air disinfection. Essential oils can easily cope with almost any pathogenic and unwanted flora and fauna, from viruses to fungi and even annoying insects.

This quality is absolutely invaluable during epidemics, from which many try to protect themselves, say, with garlic. Ethers are unlikely to help against vampires, but they will cope with the flu virus better than garlic, and you won’t have to smell like an old dragon.

  • To modulate mood. The connection between the olfactory organs and those parts of the brain that determine mood has long been known. Essential oils will help you stay alert and attentive at work, and at home they will calm and calm you.
  • For therapeutic purposes. Aromatherapy has long proven its effectiveness in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. You go about your business - and at the same time, heal yourself by inhaling the healing aroma in the air of your home.

Basic Tools

  • Aroma lamps. The principle of their operation is very simple: water is poured into a ceramic or stone bowl and a few drops of essential oil are added. A candle located under the bowl heats the water, the water evaporates along with the essential oil, filling the room with aroma.
  • Aroma stones are small stones made of porous material (clay, gypsum, etc.). You apply a few drops to the surface of the aroma stone and the essential oil is absorbed into the surface. Aroma stones retain the aroma well, slowly releasing it into the air over a long period of time. Aroma stones are ideal for scenting linen, cabinets, and bags.
  • Cleaning liquid. Another very simple way to fill your home with a pleasant and healthy aroma is to wash the floors with water to which essential oil has been added. To do this, you need to dissolve 5-10 of the selected essential oil in a teaspoon of polysorbate and mix with water (dosages are indicated for a medium bucket of water).
  • Aromasache. These are small bags or pads made of natural breathable fabrics, filled with dried flowers, spices, and herbs. To maintain a strong aroma, it is recommended to periodically apply a few drops of essential oil to them.
  • Diffusers. There are a variety of ready-made diffusers available in stores. But you can make your own aroma diffuser.
  • Gel diffuser. This type of diffuser is especially convenient in a car. You will need: a jar with a lid, regular food gelatin or agar-agar, glycerin and essential oils to your taste. Dilute gelatin or agar according to the instructions on the package, wait until it cools to room temperature, then add glycerin and essential oils. Mix thoroughly and pour into a jar. Place in a cool place for several hours until hardened. Recommended proportions: per 100 g of diluted gelatin - a tablespoon of glycerin and 30 drops of essential oil (or a mixture of oils).
  • Reed diffuser. To make a reed diffuser you will need: a small bottle with a narrow neck made of glass or ceramic, several reed sticks (you can use bamboo skewers for mini-kebabs), almond oil, one or more essential oils. Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to 50 g of almond oil. Mix and pour into a bottle. Place several reed sticks into the bottle (the length of the sticks should be significantly higher than the height of the bottle). After about a day, the sticks will be completely saturated with scented oil and will begin to release the aroma into the surrounding area.
  • Wax plates. This specially scented wax is a very convenient form of fragrance and can be used almost anywhere, from clothing closets to car interiors. Melt 50 g of beeswax in a water bath, add 30-40 drops of essential oil and pour it into a silicone mold to harden. Scented wax will give off its subtle aroma for several months.

Examples of essential compositions for air aromatization

To make your own flavoring, you can choose any oils to suit your taste. Essential oil can be used either alone or in various compositions. Here are some examples of such combinations:

For kitchen and bathroom. The air in such rooms is often damp, and this can lead to the risk of mold. Place a diffuser with essential oils of monarda and lemon in such rooms. For 50 g of oil in a diffuser - 20 drops of monarda and lemon.

For the bedroom. The bedroom is a kingdom of such aromas as lavender, spikenard, jasmine, incense, sandalwood, clary sage, rose, neroli.

For the office. Essential oils of rosemary, bergamot, lemon, lemon eucalyptus, citronella will help increase your productivity. And sandalwood essential oil will give your office an atmosphere of respectability in the eyes of visitors.

For a children's room. The number of essential oils approved for children is extremely limited. You can use essential oils of lavender, chamomile, and incense very carefully. Literally 1-2 drops for the entire space of the room. For example, if your child has trouble falling asleep, apply 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil to an aroma stone and place this stone near the bed.

During influenza epidemics. Using essential oils will help clear the air of viruses and bacteria, and will also help strengthen your immune system. Choose the following oils: Ravensara, lemon eucalyptus, monarda, all pine essential oils.

During the hot season. Some essential oils can slightly “cool” the atmosphere of the room, improve your well-being, and eliminate headaches. The top three among these oils are: mint, lemon, lemon petitgrain.

During the cold season. Using certain types of essential oils will not only help you stay warm on frosty days, but also help you stay energized on gray, dark days. Best choices: all citrus oils, cinnamon, cloves, anise.

Experiment! And let the atmosphere of your home be saturated with the natural aromas of real Nature.

Maxim, I order raw materials from XXx, I think everything is fine with the quality of raw materials. The skill of mixing almond oil with essential oil in certain proportions? Are there any mixing tricks?) I make diffusers with alcohol and um, and the skill doesn’t fail me and the aroma is wonderful throughout the house :)
I decided to make it with base oil, and the result turned out completely different from what was described. I would be grateful if you could tell me what exactly is wrong. Thank you.

Well, first of all, the issue of quality here is not obvious to me. Secondly, I don’t always understand the position of people who buy in one place and consult in another;)
