Pediatric ophthalmology - our children's ophthalmology center has a full range of equipment for diagnosing and treating eye diseases in children. The department is headed by an experienced clinician with more than ten years of experience in European clinics.

Modern equipment makes it possible to conduct a complete ophthalmological examination of a child of any age, prescribe the correct correction (glasses or contact lenses), and, if necessary, carry out complex treatment of amblyopia, strabismus, myopia, using both traditional and modern computer techniques.

THIS IS INTERESTING: Few people know that newborn children have very poor vision, which then gradually improves, improves and reaches normal levels around the age of seven.

An early ophthalmological examination will allow timely detection of deviations from the norm and timely initiation of the necessary eye treatment in children. Nature has decreed that if the correct diagnosis is not made in time and treatment is not carried out before the age of ten years, and in some cases up to three to five years, then in the future even an anatomically normal eye will not acquire the ability for high vision.

How to prepare for a visit to the ophthalmologist?

Before starting an examination of children and adolescents (up to 16 years of age), the doctor collects anamnesis, i.e. history of past illnesses.

It is important to know how the child was born, on time or earlier, how much he weighed, whether there are chronic diseases, whether other specialists have observed them, what allergies he had, what, as they put it, it is recommended to remember and clarify what medications there was an allergic reaction to.

In general, the examination of the child lasts about 2 hours(taking into account the expectation of pupil dilation). After such an examination, some patients will not be able to read, write, or do homework. After admission, a certificate is issued to the school.

If your child already wears contact lenses, then for a full primary or control appointment (every 6 months), you should come without contact lenses, but with glasses. Contact lenses should be removed at least 1 hour before visiting an ophthalmologist.

If you have registered your child for contact correction and for repeated control, come without contact lenses, wearing glasses, bring the lenses in a container, it is advisable to bring boxes of lenses (or foil from a blister) so that the doctor can make sure what parameters your child is wearing.

You should wear contact lenses to your appointment only if your doctor says so. This is done only if the doctor needs to do a vision check and the child must be wearing lenses for several hours.

Why is it important to regularly visit a pediatric ophthalmologist?

Light energy, correct perception of images of the surrounding world by the eye - all this stimulates the child’s growth, his metabolic processes, normalizes and accelerates psychophysical development from the first year of life.

90% of information about the world around us is perceived through the eye, and children master the world around them primarily through vision. It is at this time that the connection between the eye and the cerebral cortex is formed and strengthened.

Absence or incorrect correction of refractive errors (farsightedness, myopia, astigmatism), strabismus, congenital eye diseases, their late diagnosis can lead to irreversible consequences!

Pediatric ophthalmology in Moscow is well developed. And our ophthalmology clinic is equipped with the most modern equipment, which is constantly updated.

Very often, childhood strabismus is a consequence of poor vision and is accompanied by neurological pathology.

Treatment of amblyopia (lazy eye)

Amblyopia (“lazy eye”) is incomplete visual acuity even when wearing glasses with the most complete correction. It can be successfully treated only in childhood.

Nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism can lead to squint. The risks are especially great in childhood!

This is caused by the fact that the eye muscles, with different visual acuity of the eyes, work with different forces and gradually the eye begins to shift. Which in turn leads to an even stronger decrease in vision, increasing the onset of strabismus.

There are hundreds of eye clinics in Russia. Each of them offers completely different approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of the most complex cases in ophthalmology. With so many offers, it’s difficult to find something suitable without knowing the details. Meanwhile, we are talking about the quality of vision.

In such situations, the rating of the best eye clinics (and not only in the capital) can serve as a real guide among medical institutions of this profile. Which is what we offer you.

How to choose an eye clinic in Russia for treatment - what to look for when choosing?

The modern world, spoiled by a huge choice of opportunities for work, means of communication and entertainment, is carried away by this and does not keep track of time. Spending a lot of time at the computer, TV and gadgets, a person gradually loses his vision, turning to doctors with already advanced cases.

Fortunately, there are enough ophthalmology clinics. And not only in the capital city. Modern professional medical equipment is also used in other regions. Highly qualified specialists use it to solve complex problems, fight various vision defects, and professional service personnel help them with this.

What should you pay attention to when choosing an eye clinic?

Ophthalmological institutions provide care to people of all ages - from infants to the elderly. And we must understand that the age factor must also be taken into account.

But when choosing a clinic, you should be guided by other points. After all, not every one of them can satisfy the client in terms of the range of services provided, and according to means, and according to wishes, etc.

So, what you need to know when choosing an eye clinic:

  • general information. It can be found on the official website of the clinic. Sometimes relatives, friends, colleagues, neighbors, acquaintances who received help in one or another clinic, from one or another ophthalmologist can do a good job. The website of a normal medical institution contains all the information about the services provided, about specialists, about equipment, key techniques, etc. By the way, the appearance of the site can also tell a lot about the institution
  • Clinic profile. Having chosen a medical institution of the desired profile, it is advisable to find out whether it provides assistance in other medical areas, in addition to ophthalmological care. It is better to let it be a highly specialized clinic, then there is a greater chance of successful treatment.
  • License. Like any other institution, an eye clinic must operate legally and have a license, which will become, if necessary, a kind of guarantee. When drawing up an agreement, ask for licensing documents.
  • Make an appointment. It is generally accepted that if there is an appointment, then the quality of the services provided is high. You won’t have to stand in long lines, and the specialist will pay maximum attention to solving your problem.
  • Consultations. Doctors from a self-respecting clinic will tell you in detail what kind of work experience they have, what kind of procedures await patients, what treatment methods will be used that guarantee the best results, etc.
  • Working time in one place. This is an important factor. After all, sometimes a patient, wanting to apply again (there may be different reasons), encounters closed doors there.
  • Reviews on the Internet e. We must understand that sometimes laudatory odes are written by people who were paid for it, and the information is unreliable. Therefore, you should not particularly focus on them.

A pediatric ophthalmologist is a doctor who diagnoses, prevents and treats eye diseases. A child’s visual organs are susceptible to many pathologies. In order for the baby to continue to receive maximum information about the world around him, he must see it in all details. Vision problems subsequently lead to delayed psychomotor development of the child. In Moscow, people turn to a pediatric ophthalmologist with a wide variety of problems. He can diagnose all types of abnormal refractions, early onset and development of glaucoma, diseases of the lens, retina and many other pathologies.

What do pediatric ophthalmologists do?

The word “ophthalmology” is a compound one. Translated from Greek, it means “the study of the eye.” A similar accepted designation for the profession of ophthalmologist is of Latin origin. It is derived from the Latin word "oculus", which means "eye". This is the name of the science of anatomy, physiology of the eye, its diseases, their diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

All children see pediatric ophthalmologists. If you may not have anything to do with an audiologist or cardiologist at all, and see a traumatologist only occasionally, then you will not be able to bypass the ophthalmologist. The point is not that every child has different kinds of vision problems. They are referred to a pediatric ophthalmologist in order to ensure their absence or to prevent the development of pathologies at the earliest stages.

Children's eye care in Moscow is one of the most common specializations, because everyone knows that a disease such as myopia can be called the problem of the century, or more precisely, the problem of megacities. When conducting comprehensive examinations of children in preschool and child care institutions, they are required to be sent to a pediatric ophthalmologist. He conducts an examination using advanced instruments, and, if necessary, refers for additional tests or instrumental examinations, such as:

  • gonioscopy;
  • biomicroscopy;
  • ophthalmoscopy;
  • diaphanoscopy and so on.

A pediatric ophthalmologist examines:

  • retina and cornea of the eye;
  • ocular fundus;
  • sclera;
  • lens;
  • eye muscles;
  • optic nerve;
  • eyelids;
  • lacrimal glands.

A pediatric ophthalmologist treats:

  • cataracts and glaucoma;
  • astigmatism, farsightedness and myopia;
  • iridrocyclitis;
  • retinal dystrophy;
  • optic nerve atrophy and many other diseases.

What symptoms should you contact a pediatric ophthalmologist for?

For preventive purposes, you should contact a pediatric ophthalmologist in Moscow at least once a year. If pathological processes are detected, visits to the ophthalmologist should be carried out on the recommendation of a doctor. In the intervals between regular examinations, contact an ophthalmologist if the baby has:

  • there was discharge from the eyes;
  • obvious strabismus was discovered;
  • there were complaints about fog and poor visibility of objects;
  • headaches become more frequent;
  • there is no reaction to monitor the movement of objects, and so on.

Where in Moscow can I get this specialty?

Departments and faculties that train people in Moscow to work with children exist in all major universities, such as:

  • Moscow State University named after. M. V. Lomonosova;
  • RNIMU named after. N. I. Pirogova;
  • FSBEI DPO IPK FMBA;

There is also a specialized Institute of Pediatrics.

Famous Moscow specialists

Pediatric ophthalmology and ophthalmology in general is an ancient science. It was studied by Cornelius Celsus from Ancient Rome, who described the structure of the eye and managed to divide blindness into irreversible and reversible, the Arab physician of the Middle Ages Ibn Al-Haytham, who laid the foundations of medical optics, Ibn Sina.

In our country, a table similar to that accepted throughout the world is used. It was developed by ophthalmologist Sivtsev. If we remember the great ophthalmologists, we cannot miss Vladimir Filatov, the author of the method of transplanting a donor cornea, Zirm, the great modern doctor Svyatoslav Fedorov, who paid a lot of attention to pediatric ophthalmology.

    full range of diagnostic techniques;

    individual vision training programs (Eye-training program), allowing you to correct visual impairment due to strabismus, astigmatism and other pathologies;

    modern therapeutic and surgical methods for treating amblyopia, strabismus and myopia.

A pediatric ophthalmologist (pediatric ophthalmologist) deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the visual organs in children.

Eyes are one of the main human sense organs. With their help, a child learns about the world from the first days of life and receives up to 90% of information. In childhood, the development of the visual organs occurs very quickly. And in order to avoid possible complications and problems in the future, it is extremely important to promptly detect the presence of a particular pathology and prescribe adequate treatment. A pediatric ophthalmologist is on the list of those doctors whose regular visits, including for preventive purposes, are necessary for every child from the moment of birth.

Reasons for visiting a pediatric ophthalmologist

    parents note a deterioration in the child’s vision (the child brings small objects close to his eyes, comes close to the TV, at school he has difficulty reading from the board or gets tired easily when reading books);

  • Diagnostic methods

    Among the diagnostic methods used by pediatric ophthalmologists at the EMC clinic in Moscow:

      ophthalmoscopy (examination of the fundus and eyeball using a special lens);

      visometry (determining visual acuity);

      skiascopy and keratorefractometry (diagnosis of myopia, farsightedness, astigmatism);

      study of binocular vision;

      iridology (diagnosis of hereditary diseases);

      biomicroscopy (examination of the eyeball and eyelids under a microscope to identify chronic inflammation, the risk of developing glaucoma or eye fatigue and dryness);

      tonometry (measurement of pressure inside the eyes).

    Eye-Training hardware and software complex

    The EMC Children's Clinic has a modern hardware and software complex for the diagnosis and treatment of binocular and stereoscopic vision disorders (Eye-Training).

    Eye-training program is a program aimed at training “lazy” eyes and increasing visual acuity, which a children's ophthalmologist conducts in a fun, playful way for the child. Thanks to this technique, the balance of visual images between the eyes during strabismus is also restored, the stability of fixation is increased, and deep vision is trained.

    Treatment of strabismus in children

    The specialists at the EMC Children's Clinic also have extensive experience in solving the problem of strabismus. Depending on the cause of its appearance, the pediatric ophthalmologist draws up an individual treatment program.

    Strabismus, which appears in the first months of a child’s life, is usually associated with complicated pregnancy and childbirth. Sometimes the cause is congenital pathologies: various inflammatory eye diseases. In other cases, strabismus (usually convergent) may be associated with high farsightedness. Prevention of this type of disease is early diagnosis of refractive pathology (farsightedness or astigmatism), as well as timely correction with glasses; pleoptic and orthoptic treatment can be prescribed.

    If conservative therapy does not bring the desired result, the pediatric ophthalmologist may recommend surgical correction of strabismus, after which therapeutic treatment is resumed.

    Ophthalmologists at the EMC Children's Clinic have extensive experience in surgical treatment of children from an early age, which can significantly reduce the time of surgery and rehabilitation after surgery. The clinic's anesthesiologists use special children's devices and medications to ensure the softest and safest medicated sleep.

    Consultation with a pediatric ophthalmologist

    First examination by an ophthalmologist

    It is important for parents to remember that many eye diseases do not have pronounced symptoms, and only a competent pediatrician can make an accurate diagnosis.

    The first eye examination is usually carried out in the maternity hospital - in the first days of the baby's life. If this does not happen, it is necessary to consult a pediatric ophthalmologist within the first month. During the examination, the pediatric ophthalmologist will first perform a biomicroscopy of the eye: check the condition of the eyelids and tear ducts, examine the conjunctiva (thin transparent tissue covering the outside of the eye), cornea and lens. The pediatric ophthalmologist will also check for congenital anomalies (strabismus, glaucoma, cataracts, etc.) that require immediate treatment. An examination by a pediatric ophthalmologist at the EMC clinic also includes an assessment of the condition of the fundus using ophthalmoscopy.

    Visits to an ophthalmologist up to a year

    In the absence of any pathologies, a return visit to the pediatric ophthalmologist is recommended after 6 months, and then after a year. During this period, the child’s eyes actively develop, refraction is established (farsightedness, astigmatism, congenital myopia or anisometropia - “different eyes”), and conducting an examination at this age is extremely important for maintaining high quality vision in the future.

    Examination by an ophthalmologist at 2.5-3 years

    The next visit to a pediatric ophthalmologist at the clinic is required at the age of 2.5–3 years, when the child develops. This is the age at which the development of concomitant strabismus is possible, therefore, a determination of the nature of vision and the reserve of accommodation is added to the usual examination by a pediatric ophthalmologist in the clinic. In most cases, it is the early detection of refractive errors and the prescription of effective treatment that prevents the development of strabismus.

    Annual ophthalmologist examination

    Further throughout your life, an examination by an ophthalmologist must be carried out annually. At the age of 7–14, many children develop myopia, and timely therapeutic measures will help reduce the rate of vision deterioration. At the age of 13–20, changes in hormonal levels and increased eye strain can cause headaches and eye pain due to the presence of astigmatism - only a pediatric ophthalmologist can help in this situation. The EMC clinic has all the necessary equipment to provide quality treatment.

    Only an experienced and competent pediatric ophthalmologist can correct the above and many other vision problems. Moscow is currently at the forefront of scientific and medical advances. Specialists at the EMC Children's Clinic actively collaborate and regularly exchange experience with colleagues from Western European countries, therefore diagnosis and treatment at the European Medical Center are carried out in accordance with generally accepted international practice.
