Holy Angels. Prayers to the Archangels for every day.

1. Holy Angels

2. About the holy Archangels

3. Prayers to the Archangels for every day

1. Holy Angels.

Angels (the last, ninth, rank of the hierarchy) are bright spiritual beings who stand closest to us and have special care for us.

From the Holy Scriptures, we know that there are seven Archangels, that is, senior Angels who rule over all the others. In the book of Tobit we read that the angel who spoke with him said: “I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels” (Tob. 12, 15). And the Revelation of John the Theologian speaks of seven spirits who are before the throne of God (see Rev. 1:4). The Holy Church refers to them: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Selaphiel, Yehudiel and Barahiel. Tradition includes Jeremiah among them.

Holy Angels live in the invisible, spiritual world. There is the eternal Throne of the Most High, which is surrounded by all the Powers of Heaven, illuminated from Him by the light of non-evening.

The veneration of the holy angels in the Church of God is as ancient as the Church itself. It does not stop, starting from the first times of the existence of the world. In the Old Testament, the prophet Moses, who received the commandments from God, at the same time received from Him the command to place golden images of the Cherubim in the Holy of Holies (Ex. 37, 7-9). God Himself appeared many times in the form of Angels. The appearances of holy angels always aroused high reverence in people, and the places of these appearances were sacred.

In the Holy Apostolic Church, the invocation of holy angels is continuously performed and reverent veneration is rendered to them.

The celebration of the Council of the Archangel Michael of God and other incorporeal Heavenly Powers was established at the beginning of the 4th century at the Local Council of Laodicea, which was several years before the First Ecumenical Council. The Council of Laodicea condemned and rejected the heretical worship of Angels as the creators and rulers of the world and approved their Orthodox veneration in the 35th canon.

The ranks of the Angels are divided into three hierarchies - the highest, the middle and the lowest. Each hierarchy is made up of three ranks. The higher hierarchy includes: Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones. Closest to all the Most Holy Trinity are the six-winged Seraphim (Flaming, Fiery) (Is. 6, 2). They burn with love for God and incite others to it.

After the Seraphim, the Lord will have many-eyed Cherubim (Genesis 3:24). Their name means: an outpouring of wisdom, enlightenment, because through them, shining with the light of the knowledge of God and the understanding of the mysteries of God, wisdom and enlightenment are sent down for true knowledge of God.

Behind the Cherubim are the Thrones, God-bearing by the grace given to them for service (Col. 1:16), mysteriously and incomprehensibly bearing God. They serve the justice of God.

The average Angelic hierarchy is made up of three ranks: Dominions, Forces and Powers.

Dominions (Col. 1:16) have dominion over the subsequent ranks of Angels. They instruct the earthly rulers appointed by God to wise management. Dominions are taught to control feelings, to tame sinful desires, to enslave the flesh to the spirit, to dominate one's will, to overcome temptations.

Forces (1 Pet. 3:22) fulfill the will of God. They work miracles and send down the grace of wonderworking and clairvoyance to the saints of God. Forces help people in carrying out obediences, strengthen them in patience, give spiritual strength and courage in the passage of life's feat.

The authorities (1 Pet. 3:22; Col. 1:16) give grace to tame the power of the devil. They repel demonic temptations from people, affirm ascetics, protect them, and help people in the fight against evil thoughts.

The following hierarchy includes three ranks: Principals, Archangels and Angels.

The principles (Col. 1:16) rule over the lower angels, directing them to the fulfillment of Divine commands. They are entrusted with managing the universe, protecting countries, peoples, tribes. The Principles instruct people to give each one the honor due to his rank. Leaders are taught to perform official duties not for the sake of personal glory and benefits, but for the glory of God and for the benefit of their neighbors.

The archangels (1 Thess. 4:16) proclaim the great and glorious gospel, reveal the secrets of faith, prophecy and the understanding of the will of God, strengthen the holy faith in people, enlightening their minds with the light of the holy Gospel.

Angels (1 Pet. 3:22) are closest to people. They proclaim the will of God, instruct people to a virtuous and holy life. They keep believers and keep from sinful falls, raise the fallen, never leave us and are always ready to help if we wish.

All ranks of the Heavenly Forces bear the common name of Angels - in essence of their service. Angel means messenger, messenger. The Lord reveals His will to the higher Angels, and they enlighten the lower ones.

Since ancient times, the Archangel Michael in Rus' has been glorified by his miracles. Intercession for the Russian cities of the Most Holy Queen of Heaven has always been carried out by Her appearances with the Host of Heaven under the leadership of the Archangel. Grateful Rus' sang the Most Pure Theotokos and the Archangel Michael in church hymns.

The Archangels are also known from Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition: Gabriel is the fortress (power) of God, the herald and minister of Divine omnipotence (Acts 8:26; Luke 1:26); Raphael - God's healing, healer of human ailments (Tov. 3, 17; 12, 15); Uriel (aka Jeremiel) - the fire or light of God, the enlightener (3 Ezra. 5, 20); Salaphiel - God's prayer book, inciting to prayer (3 Ezra. 5, 16); Jehudiel - glorifying God, strengthening those who work for the glory of the Lord and interceding for recompense for their deeds; Varahiel is a distributor of God's blessing for good deeds, an intercessor asking people for God's mercy.

The blessedness of the angels consists in contemplating God, in contemplating His glory, they “see His face outward” (Matt. 18:10). But this direct contemplation of the perfections of the Divine is not limited to the knowledge of Angels. They see God in the created nature. They praised the Lord the Creator with a “great voice” at the time when the stars and other heavenly bodies were created (Job 28:7). Before their intelligent eyes, both the world government of God and the dispensation of our salvation are revealed. But the mystery of the Redemption remains incomprehensible to the Angels, as well as the day of the last Judgment, when “the Son of Man will come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him” (Matt. 25, 31). Without going beyond the limits of understanding assigned to them, they stand reverently before the Throne of God and unceasingly glorify His wondrous Name. Their whole life in relation to God consists in this doxology.

Following the example of the Angels, we can also delve, to the best of our ability, into the mysteries of the Divine universe and world government. We have a mind that knows God in visible and spiritual nature. The fate of God in the created world is also comprehended by us. Everywhere we can see the wisdom, goodness and omnipotence of God, and revere His perfections. We must especially revere the mystery of our salvation.

Angels with fear and trembling stand before the Throne of God; and we must cultivate our salvation with fear. Let the praise of God be our constant and eternal occupation, together with the Angels, in the Kingdom of the Heavenly Father.

In addition to fulfilling duties to God, we can imitate the Angels in the performance of their duties to people. Angels are sent to help people, especially those who wish to inherit salvation (Heb. 1:14).

They serve us in all our needs, spiritual and bodily. Does anyone need to get rid of the enemies attacking us, the Angels of the Lord camp "around those who fear Him" for their deliverance (Ps. 33:8). If anyone wants to be freed from illnesses and other sorrows, the Lord sends an angel who heals and saves. Whether it is necessary to remove someone from misfortune, sin and temptation - the Angel is a liberator and savior. On the tablets of Sacred History, we see numerous examples in which Angels are presented as benefactors of the human race, helpers, mentors and leaders.

Angels of God, like pure spiritual light, are removed from us when sinful darkness envelops our souls. Just as in the visible world the rays of the sun, with all their brilliance and radiance, do not penetrate the grossest bodies, so in the invisible world, the Angels of God, borrowing their light from the Everlasting Sun, from the very Source of Light, appear only to pure souls. Just as fire is kindled from fire, light from light, so the spiritual contact of angelic light with us becomes tangible only when the fire of pure love for God and the light of faith ignite in our spirit.

They draw near to us as we draw near to God, and move away from us as we move away from God.

The proposed selection of canons, akathists and prayers to the holy Heavenly Powers of the incorporeal, without a doubt, will not only bring the Archangels of God closer to us, sinners, but will also elevate our souls to those heavenly peaks, where now and forever, and forever and ever, dwells the Light of Love - Quiet Light Holy glory of the Immortal Heavenly Father, Holy, Blessed Jesus Christ! Amen.

2. About the holy Archangels.

The rank of the holy Archangels, as the middle one in the last Hierarchy, unites the extreme ranks by its communion with them. Archangels communicate with the most holy Beginnings and through them turn to the most peaceful Beginning, conform to Him as much as possible; keep unity among the Angels in accordance with their harmonious, skillful, invisible leadership. With the Angels, the rank of the Archangels is communicated as a rank determined for teaching. The Archangels receive Divine illuminations through the first Forces according to the nature of the Hierarchy, pass them on with love to the Angels who are closest to people, and in special cases directly to worthy people who are close in spirit to the holy Angels.

How do we know, beloved, about the ranks and degrees of angels? He said, told us about this the one who himself, with his own eyes, saw these ranks and degrees of angels, who himself heard their touching songs, their victorious hymns - the supreme apostle of tongues, Paul. I know, - he tells about himself, - a man in Christ who. whether in the body - I do not know, whether outside the body - I do not know; God knows, he was caught up to the third heaven. into paradise, and heard unspeakable words which a man cannot utter (2 Corinthians 12:2-4). It is impossible because the heart cannot withstand it, the mind cannot contain it. That is why the apostle Paul could not tell anyone the verbs he heard in heaven.

But about what the structure of the life of angels is, what degrees there are among them - the apostle told about all this to his disciple, whom he converted from the pagans to Christ when he was in Athens. The name of this disciple of Pavlov is Dionysius the Areopagite (he was a member of the Areopagus, the supreme court of Athens). Dionysius, everything he heard from Paul, wrote down and compiled a book: "On the Heavenly Hierarchy."

Although the number of Angels is immeasurable - the darkness is great, so - but there are only seven Archangels. I am one from the seven holy Angels, - thus spoke the Archangel Raphael to the righteous Tobit, - who bring the prayers of the saints and enter before the glory of the Holy One. (Tov. 12, 15). Similar to the seven lamps before the throne of the Most High, there are seven Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Selaphiel, Yehudiel and Barahiel.

In the service of the Lord among the many spiritual beings in the heavenly kingdom are the Archangels. They are the leaders of the heavenly army, which stands in defense of the world of God. The duties of the Archangels include keeping order on earth and in heaven. They are subject to angels who are closest to people.

Archangels are often evangelists of the will of God. They bring prophecies to people and reveal the secrets of faith. In human form, only the Archangel Gabriel and Michael appeared before people. Each Archangel has its own functions, but all of them are involved in one way or another in instructing a believer on the true path. In the Bible, it is noted that each Archangel is responsible for a specific day of the week.

The prayers of the Archangels are of great power. When offering a prayer, the following should be considered:

  • archangel Michael, which is depicted in church paintings with weapons in his hands, is the spokesman for all the works of the Lord. He is a real defender of the Kingdom of Heaven, so icon painters often depicted him trampling on a monster that symbolizes Lucifer.
  • Gabriel often depicted on icons with a mirror in his hand, which symbolizes as a messenger of the deeds and thoughts of the Lord.
  • Raphael assists in healing, on the icons he is depicted with a medical vessel in his hand.
  • Uriel responsible for the realm of the mind. Icon painters depict him with fire and a sword in his hands, which is a symbol of the study of various sciences and enlightenment in general.
  • Selaphiel- this is the supreme minister of prayers, therefore icon painters depict him in a prayer position.
  • Yehudiel is responsible for glorifying the Name of the Lord and is considered the steward of the blessings of the Lord. He is depicted on icons with a golden crown in his right hand, this symbolizes the highest award for a believer who spares no effort in the implementation of charitable deeds.
  • Barahiel always depicted in pink clothes, it symbolizes God's blessing.

1. Holy Angels

In the book of Tobit we read that the angel who spoke with him said: "I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels" (Tob.

The Angelic ranks are divided into three hierarchies - the highest, the middle and the lowest.

All ranks of the Heavenly Forces bear the common name of Angels - in essence of their ministry.

The Archangels are also known from Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition: Gabriel is the fortress (strength) of God, the herald and minister of Divine omnipotence (Acts 8:26; Luke 1:26); Raphael - God's healing, healer of human ailments (Tov.
The blessedness of the angels consists in contemplating God, in contemplating His glory, they "behold His face" (Matt. 18:10). But this direct contemplation of the perfections of the Divine is not limited to the knowledge of Angels. They see God in the created nature. They praised the Lord the Creator with a "great voice" at the time when the stars and other heavenly bodies were created (Job 28:7). Before their intelligent eyes, both the world government of God and the dispensation of our salvation are revealed. But the mystery of the Redemption remains incomprehensible to the Angels, as well as the day of the last Judgment, when "the Son of Man will come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him" (Matt.
Just as in the visible world the rays of the sun, with all their brilliance and radiance, do not penetrate the grossest bodies, so in the invisible - the Angels of God, borrowing their light from the Everlasting Sun, from the very Source of Light, appear only to pure souls. Just as fire is kindled from fire, light from light, so the spiritual contact of angelic light with us becomes tangible only when the fire of pure love for God and the light of faith ignite in our spirit.
They draw near to us as we draw near to God, and move away from us as we move away from God.
The proposed selection of canons, akathists and prayers to the holy Heavenly Powers of the incorporeal, no doubt, will not only bring the Archangels of God closer to us, sinners, but will also elevate our souls to those heavenly peaks, where now and forever, and forever and ever, dwells the Light of Love - Quiet Light Holy glory of the Immortal Heavenly Father, Holy, Blessed Jesus Christ! Amen.

I know, - he tells about himself, - a man in Christ, who ... whether in the body - I don’t know, whether outside the body - I don’t know; God knows - he was caught up to the third heaven ... into paradise, and heard inexpressible verbs that a man cannot retell (2 Cor. 12:2-4).

The spiritual world does not consist of only one God, many other entities reside in it. From the Bible, people know about angels. They are revered not only in Orthodoxy, but also in Judaism, Islam, they believe in angels and those who call themselves atheists. There are even special prayers to the archangels that are read every day of the week.

Who are the angels

Spiritual entities that are in the service of God were created before people, as most theologians believe. They do not have a physical body, but sometimes they appear before people in a form that is easier for them to perceive. On icons they are often depicted as youths with wings behind their backs. These are, of course, conventions.

Archangels are one of the ranks, they have a personality, their own names, they are known because they are mentioned in the Bible. The most "popular" are Michael and Gabriel, who played a significant role in sacred history. It is with an appeal to them that prayers to the archangels for every day begin.

Which archangels to pray

Michael the Archangel is well known in Rus'. He often showed himself to soldiers before important battles, this happened during the appearances of the Virgin, the heavenly commander himself accompanied the Queen of Heaven. It is rather difficult to read prayers every day, but this is a strong protection against temptations, spiritual growth. So it's worth trying.

In general, the Archangel Michael belongs to the middle rank in the upper hierarchy of the heavenly forces, according to the teachings of the holy fathers. His duty is to pass orders to lower ranks. Those, in turn, pass them on to people. Sometimes the Archangels themselves appear, but only to those who are so spiritually developed that they are able to withstand their appearance. We know from Scripture that the sight of angels frightens most people.

You should pray every day of the week in order to better perceive the subtle energy of the spiritual world, which is simply inaccessible to sinners. They themselves are rejected from grace. However, the situation can be corrected. Even short but regular exercises in fellowship with God will bring a lot of benefits.

Prayers to the archangels have a very accessible content, they are short, but they express everything that is necessary. They were spiritually gifted people. It must be understood that verbosity is not always a sign of good prayer. In some cases, brevity is preferable.

Other Archangels are mentioned in the Holy Scriptures:

  • Gabriel - appeared to the Virgin Mary and other heroes of the Bible;
  • Raphael - known for treating people;
  • Uriel - enlightens the nations, the name means "light";
  • Salafiel - encourages prayerful labors;
  • Yehudiel is the one who praises the Lord, he helps everyone who works for Christ, and not for profit;
  • Varahiel - distributes God's blessings to all who plan a good undertaking.

All angels turn to the One Lord so that he would have mercy on people, note their virtues, and be indulgent to shortcomings. Since these are beings of a different order, nothing earthly concerns them. Therefore, they can give protection for every day. It is only necessary to avoid bad words, deeds - this makes the angels move away from the person. By the way, many righteous people were honored to see them with their own eyes, for example, Seraphim of Sarov. It is believed that sinful people cannot see God's servants.

Prayer to Michael the Archangel asks him to crush the enemies, and also to beg the Lord for protection. In the next appeal, believers are asked to get rid of temptations, because angels are able to penetrate people's thoughts, there were times when they warned them against rash acts. Every day you should, at least briefly, pray to your Angel.

  • Monday should begin with an appeal to the Archangel Michael, who possesses a fiery sword that can strike unclean spirits.
  • Tuesday is the day of turning to Gabriel, who brought the joyful news of the coming birth of the Son of God. It can be asked for protection from diseases.
  • On Wednesday they pray to Raphael, who can heal spiritual and bodily ailments.
  • Thursday follows an appeal to Uriel, who is known for his fiery love for God, which is lacking in many modern people.
  • Friday is the day of Selaphiel, which can give contrition, concentration during prayer.
  • Saturday - you need to ask the Archangel Jehudiel to save you from laziness. Many would like to praise God, but habit gets in the way. The prayer of a heavenly patron can give zeal. On Sunday, before going to the temple, one should be blessed by the angel Barahiel, who will be able to direct the soul on the path of correction.

If you pray to the archangels every day of the week, you will notice changes for the better very soon. It will become calmer at heart, you will want to go to the temple once again. May the Lord help you in prayer!

words of St. Isaac the Syrian

Archangels are called great evangelists, reporting on the great Glorious God. Their service consists in revealing prophecies, knowledge and understanding of the will of God, which they receive from the higher Orders and proclaim to the lower ones - the Angels, and through them - to people. By the will of God, they do a great job of educating, purifying and enlightening us with boundless love for the Creator. Archangels strengthen the Holy Faith in people, enlightening their minds with the light of the knowledge of the Holy Gospel and revealing the mysteries of pious faith.
