The everyday life of the main character, a terrier named Max (Louis C.K.), consists of waiting for his beloved owner Katie, with whom he is selflessly “in love.” But one unfortunate day his measured life collapses: a compassionate girl brings into the house a huge and shaggy dog ​​Duke (Eric Stonestreet). Katie is sincerely confident that the dogs will definitely make friends, but Max does not share her enthusiasm. Duke is rude and does not have good manners; all Max’s attempts to “put him in his place” end in failure.

However, Max is not one of those who are used to just giving up. Using blackmail, he forces Duke to submit to himself. But this brilliant idea turns into a disaster: during a walk, Duke breaks the leash and lures Max to the trash heap and at the same time falls into his own trap.

Stray cats remove Max and Duke's collars, without which the animal control service mistakes them for street dogs.

In this situation, Duke shows his true “face” for the first time, he is scared and depressed, not a trace of his self-confidence remains.

But the “brothers” do not end up in the shelter.

The car is hijacked by a gang of cute but crazy rabbit Snowball (Kevin Hart). The main character and narrator in The Secret Life of Pets is optimistic Jack Russell Terrier named Max, who lives in perfect harmony with his mistress Katie. If we hadn't seen Pixar's Toy Story before, The Secret Life of Pets would have been considered a good work - it's a fun, mischievous, childishly humorous, beautifully animated film. In addition, the music in it is good, and the views of New York are generally beautiful (a film with such love for this city that children's audiences will definitely want to live in the Big Apple years later). True, if Pixar can strike a high dramatic note - take at least one moment from Toy Story, when a plastic astronaut realizes that he is not an astronaut at all, but just a toy, then in The Secret Life of Pets there is only a hint of heart-warming moments. For example, one of the important scenes, where the homeless Duke talks about his previous owner, turned out to be rather restrained - where the kids were supposed to sob together with pity, this does not happen

Social problems they don’t sneak into cartoons very often, and here in the Brooklyn slums there is even a whole gang of former pets: this is the evil rabbit Snowball, who escaped from a magician and became the leader of thugs, his companion is an unfortunate pig who was tortured in a tattoo parlor, trying to get tattoos on her , and many others. This part of the film is especially interesting and resembles an attempt to create a gangster movie for children. At least it's interesting.

The hooligan intonation of the film "The Secret Life of Pets" will certainly appeal to teenagers - there are forbidden parties and heavy metal, and jokes on YouTube, but it may alarm parents who want to protect their children from the adult world for as long as possible, where crime bosses, homeless people and helpless citizens live (we’re talking about a paralyzed basset hound).
