Hello to all four-legged furry owners. Today I want to share a review about One food, which I recently came across. Usually they tried Brit Premium, and before it Royal Canin and Perfect Fit, but these are separate stories. So, one day I forgot to buy a new package of the usual food on time, and in the morning it turned out that there was nothing to feed the cat. The best thing was Purina's One food, it's certainly worse than Brit, but at least it's not Whiskas. The food has a pleasant aroma, small triangular granules, the price is very low (90 rubles for 200 g). Among the shortcomings, it is necessary to highlight the quality of raw materials and composition. Also, after this food, the smell from the cat’s toilet is more unpleasant than usual.

As for the cat’s reaction, he didn’t turn up his nose and ate no worse than usual. In general, I would not feed this food, except in unforeseen situations. Opinions about the quality of this food are divided: some consumers claim that it is a high-quality economy class, while others insist that it is premium. Where is the truth? Unclear. Let's take a closer look at this brand of food and finally dot the i's.

The One series diet line consists of diets divided into age animal - this includes a menu for kittens, pets over one year old, and elderly cats (over 11 years old). The manufacturer also focuses on the special needs of cats, offering specialized menus:

As you can see, this brand does not shine with special variety. But perhaps we will be surprised by the quality of the food, since the quantity is not impressive. For a detailed study, we decided to choose the most popular cat food, Purina One - for indoor cats with turkey and grains.

Feed composition

For analysis, we take the composition of the feed given on each pack. So, the formula of this food consists of the following ingredients: turkey (composed of 17%), followed by wheat, which is also 17%. Next comes corn gluten, the amount of which is no longer known. Then dry poultry proteins, corn and animal fat are listed as lipid fillers. Dried beet pulp and pea protein complete the list of main ingredients. Next we see the content of dried chicory root, minerals and flavoring. Last on the list of ingredients is yeast, fish fat and vitamin complex.

That's the whole lineup. Very, very modest, as for a high-quality, complete diet for a domestic predator.

Also on the package we can find information about the guaranteed composition:

• Protein: 34.0% ( normal indicator)
• Fat: 13.0% (within the normal range for domestic cats)

On the one hand, the food contains no components that are frankly harmful to cats, which can cause illness. On the other hand, the composition of the diet is very modest, and it does not contain components characteristic of the super-premium and holistic segments. Despite this, reviews of Purina Van cat food indicate its popularity among the mass consumer. Let's consider the quality characteristics of the ingredients.

Squirrels

Proteins include turkey, dried poultry protein and pea protein. Thanks to these components, the food can be classified as a premium product. The composition does not contain by-products of questionable quality, as well as substances of chemical origin that imitate protein.

But it’s worth making a reservation - turkey is an elastic concept. That is, the condition of the raw materials is not indicated: was it pure fresh meat, or was a whole bird carcass used without pre-treatment? Thanks to some experience, we can state the following: if the composition included pure meat, and even more so dehydrated poultry, the manufacturer would write about this, as they say, in capital letters. Often behind the wording “turkey” or “chicken” there is not super high-quality raw material hidden in the form of a whole carcass, which is ground together with bones, cartilage, skin and entrails.

Another source of proteins is dried poultry protein. This component is good source protein component, however, during the processing of poultry meat to obtain such a powder, other useful components are lost. Therefore, it is often used to “adjust” the protein value to the standards of a particular class of feed.

Pea protein is not a very healthy component because, in fact, it only replaces animal protein. It is added exclusively as a cheap nutrient to increase the percentage of proteins.

Fats

The source of fat is a component such as animal, as well as fish oil. Animal fat is a screen that most often means low-quality fats of animal origin (beef and pork). Not very good for cats. But fish oil is a good component. It is healthy, easily digestible, and most importantly, contains polyunsaturated acids. This is a very good component, it’s a pity that there aren’t many of it (the penultimate place in the lineup).

Carbohydrates

Relatively low price Purina Van food for cats is achieved by a simple technique - filling the composition with carbohydrates plant origin. In this case we see both wheat and corn, as well as corn gluten. The percentage of grains is not indicated, but after some simple calculations, we can understand that this diet contains about 30% carbohydrates.
