Age norms in children table. The norm of height and weight for girls of different ages.

The weight and height of a child largely determines its physical development. Many pediatricians still tell parents that these factors are not the most important, the main thing is how the child develops, however, weight determines physical state child's body. How much should a baby weigh by month?

All children are different and they also develop differently, but still there are certain norms that pediatricians and parents should be guided by when developing a child. The doctors themselves talk about the optimal values of height and weight for a particular child, and also call them the correct ratio.

On average, the increase in the first month of a newborn's life should be 800 grams.

Many mothers have probably noticed that the body weight of the child from the moment of his birth and on the day of discharge from the hospital usually becomes a little less. This is a normal process, which is a physiological weight loss. This "weight loss" of the newborn is explained by the loss of fluid through the skin and lungs, the drying of the umbilical cord residue and the release of meconium. The normal process is weight loss in the range of 6-8% of the baby's body weight at birth. Approximately on the 7-10th day of the life of the crumbs, its initial body weight is restored.

From this point on, we can already talk about weight gain, which occurs due to the nutrients contained in breast milk or infant formula. It is impossible to say exactly how much a baby should weigh at 1 month, because you need to start from the body weight with which he was born. On average, the increase in the first month of a newborn's life should be 800 grams. It turns out that if a newborn weighed 3 kg at birth, then a month later the scales should show 3,800 g.

Assessing the body weight of the crumbs, it should be understood that it must correspond to its growth. By the end of the first month of a newborn's life, he should grow by 3-3.5 cm. To assess the growth and development of the child, pediatricians use special tables, after which medical card enter a number from 1 to 7. What do they mean? Let's try to figure it out:

  • 1 - very low growth;
  • 2 - low growth;
  • 3 - growth below average;
  • 4 - average growth;
  • 5 - growth above average;
  • 6 - high growth;
  • 7 - very high.

Baby weight at 2 months

On the second month of life average weight the baby is 4300-4900 grams. For children born before due date, weight gain is considered a little differently. Usually, the weight of a premature baby at 2 months is practically the same as the body weight of a newborn who was born at term.

Some mothers are interested in whether the weight of the baby differs from the type of feeding. Pediatricians answer that the difference in the type of baby's diet does not affect weight gain.

Body weight of 3-month-old babies

Three-month-old girls weigh approximately 5200-5800 grams, boys - 5700-6400

Three-month-old girls weigh approximately 5200-5800 grams, boys - 5700-6400. However, parents should understand that weight gain for children is an individual process that depends on many factors. That is why you should not be upset if your baby gained a little less than indicated in the weight standards table.

To calculate how much a baby should weigh at 3 months, add 2350 g to its initial weight. Where did this figure come from? It was formed from 800 grams gained by the baby in the first month, and the same weight over the next 4 weeks, plus 750 grams for this month.

Parents begin to worry when their children weigh less than they should. However, overweight is no less dangerous, if by three months the child's body weight exceeds 10%, you should visit the pediatrician's office with this problem. If the child is on breastfeeding, many doctors recommend that you first express milk, and then feed it to your baby from a bottle. So you will know exactly how much the baby ate.

Norm for 4 months

When your baby is 4 months old, he should weigh an average of 7 kg. Starting from the fourth month, the baby is already starting to gain 50 grams less. If the previous three months he added 800 grams, then from now on he will gain 700. Each month, weight gain will decrease by 50 grams, which is a normal physiological process.

Weight of 5 month old babies

Five-month-old boys weigh on average 6500-7000 grams, girls - 6900-7300. Usually it is at this age that parents decide whether to introduce complementary foods to the baby or wait a little longer.

In fact, the introduction of complementary foods at such an early age depends on how the child grows and develops. If the baby is underweight, then pediatricians themselves recommend that mothers enter into children's diet complete food. In addition, with underweight, complementary foods should be started with cereals. If the child is breastfed, oh so early feeding at 5 months it is out of the question, with a lack of mother's milk, the baby needs to be supplemented with infant formula.

Body weight at 6 months

Pediatricians note that at this age, some babies can weigh 7 kg, while others can weigh 8 kg, while none of them have any deviations from the norm.

The weight of six-month-old babies increases by 150 grams every week. With normal development, babies born on time weigh 7500 g. Pediatricians note that at this age some babies can weigh 7 kg, while others can weigh 8 kg, while none of them have any deviations from the norm. This difference in weight gain is due to individual features the body of every child.

Weight at 7 months

By the end of the seventh month, the baby's weight should be approximately 7600-8000 g. It should be remembered that premature babies gain weight a little more slowly, but closer to a year their body weight will no longer differ from babies born on time. During this period, the baby should gain an average of 300-400 grams per month.

Eight month old babies and their weight

An eight-month-old baby, in the absence of any developmental abnormalities, weighs 8–8.5 kg. As for the growth of the baby, it depends on how the baby will be born. On average, a child becomes 2–4 cm taller per month.

Body weight at nine months

Weight gain remains the same, it turns out that a 9-month-old baby weighs approximately 8.5-9 kg. However, it can be 8 or 10 kg, it all depends on the sex of the child and his birth weight. Children who are on artificial nutrition may gain more, so parents should be especially careful about how much their child eats.

ten months

At 10 months, babies weigh an average of 9.5 kg, artificial babies can be a little more. If a child was born small, it is not surprising that he weighs less than the estimated norm, especially for girls.

11–12 months

When a child is 11 months old, his body weight is approximately 10 kg. The same weight indicators are considered normal for a child at 1 year old. This good weight, which indicates proper development crumbs. The growth of a one-year-old baby is approximately 74–80 cm.

Table of weight and height infants by age

Permissible deviations from the norm

The table above will help parents navigate in the correct weight gain of a child up to a year old. If you see that your child weighs a little less - deviations are in the range of 6-7%, this is quite acceptable.

In the case when deviations from 6–7 to 12–14% are observed, this indicates a possible tendency of the child to overweight or underweight. Deviations in body weight gain above 12-14% are indicative of a slight overweight or underweight.

When there are deviations from the weight indicators indicated in the table by 20–25%, there is already a problem with overweight or underweight. In such a situation, the intervention of specialists is already required, they may recommend changes in the child's diet. Both the diet itself and the feeding regimen can be changed. It should not be forgotten that girls usually weigh less than boys.

It grows and develops according to certain laws.

Although it is customary to consider the age of the child from the moment of his birth, it would be more correct to consider his age from the moment of conception. At that moment future child is a single cell zygote. The nucleus of the zygote stores all the traits that the future man height, weight, hair color, skin color, etc. and so on.

The growth of the child is subject to certain laws, this is a direct reflection of the process of its development. The increase in body length is a very important indicator of the development of the child as a whole (in particular, on ultrasound, the age of the child is determined by a number of indicators, one of which is height (length)).

Many factors influence the growth process:

Nutrition (providing the body with proteins, fats, carbohydrates, mineral salts, vitamins and many other substances)

To a large extent, growth is determined heredity (i.e., it almost directly depends on the height of the parents)

Growth is also affected hormones (thyroid gland, pituitary gland, insulin, as well as sex hormones androgens of the adrenal glands and gonads)

From external factors growth can be affected by the quality of care, physical exercise , duration of sleep, psychological environment surrounding the child. Jumping and jumping sports (volleyball, basketball, tennis, baseball) stimulate growth. And also the child grows more intensively during sleep, especially in the morning (if the child is chronically sleep deprived or wakes up early in the morning, this can negatively affect his growth).

Likewise, the height of the child

The gender of the child has a great influence on the growth of the child (boys grow faster than girls, the only exception is teenage years growth spurt occurs in girls 1-2-3 years earlier than in boys; however, soon the boys "catch up and overtake" the girls)

How less baby, the more intensively it grows (for 9 months of intrauterine life, the growth of the child increases by 25,000 times)

Puberty also affects growth - as soon as the body of a boy or girl is established high level sex hormones - growth stops (therefore, in most cases, by the age of 18, growth ends)

The growth of various parts of the body during the life of the child occurs unevenly

Growth can also be influenced climatic and geographical conditions

How to measure a child correctly?

Definition of growth. For measuring length small child who cannot stand, use a simple measuring tape and measure on a table. Before the procedure, the tape must be stretched and fixed. You can also use a long ruler. The child is laid on the table so that the crown of the head touches the wall where the zero mark of the measuring tape or ruler is located. It is necessary to lay the child evenly, it is best to do this when he is calm: he slept and fed. Gently with light pressure on the knees, the baby's legs are straightened and the length of growth is marked with a ruler attached to the feet.

When measuring height in older children, you can use a home height meter with a special paper centimeter tape. The child is placed barefoot on the floor with his back to the ruler. The body of the baby should be straightened, arms freely lowered along the body, knees unbent, and feet tightly shifted. The child's head should be in a position in which the edge of the lower eyelid and the upper edge of the outer ear canal located in the same horizontal plane. During the measurement, the child should easily touch the wall with three points: the back in the area of the shoulder blades, the buttocks and the heels. A flat object is applied to the top of the head perpendicular to the stadiometer and growth readings are noted on the scale.

Determination of weight - body weight.

Body weight is measured using scales (most often electronic). It is necessary to ensure that the child is in the center of the scales. Depending on the age of the child, they are weighed in the supine, sitting or standing position. Small children are placed on a diaper, after weighing the baby, its weight should be subtracted from the result.

Weighing should be carried out in the morning, before feeding, when the child urinates and empties the intestines.

Measurement of chest circumference.

It is carried out with an ordinary centimeter tape, which is applied from behind under the lower angles of the shoulder blades with the arms abducted. Then the hands are lowered and the ends of the tape are connected at the level of the nipples and, against the background of calm breathing, the measurement result is recorded. In girls with well-developed mammary glands, the tape is applied over mammary glands at the site of attachment of the gland to chest. Record the result of the measurement.

Head circumference measurement.

A measuring tape is applied to the back of occipital protuberances, and in front of superciliary arches, the ends are connected and fix the result.

Assessment of anthropometric indicators using centile tables

Centile tables for evaluation physical development of a child represent a kind of mathematical photograph of the distribution of a large number of children according to increasing indicators of height, weight, chest and head circumference. The practical use of these tables is extremely simple and convenient, combined with a good logical understanding of the evaluation results.

10 years ago, WHO (World Health Organization) developed average weight and height standards for girls and boys. For a long time, pediatricians rely on it to identify pathologies in the development of children. In children under one year of age, deviations may appear more often than in adolescents, but the values of indicators at an older age are no less important. A special table of height and weight for girls will help you find out.

Based on the table for children under one year old, girls up to 6 months old add an average of 2.5-3 cm in height, and each centimeter of growth requires an average weight gain of 200-300 kg. Thus, the average height of a girl at 10-11 months is 74-75 cm, and by 12 months it reaches 76-77 cm. The height-weight ratio of a girl up to a year will look like this:

  • 10 months - 74 cm and 10.2 kg;
  • 11 months - 75.5 cm and 10.5 kg;
  • 12 months - 76.5 cm and 10.7 kg.

The table developed by WHO is not limited to one parameter for children under one year old. Here you can find the ratio of very low and very high indicators, which are a critical point and signal that something is wrong with the physical development of the child.

However, there is no need to panic in advance. The ratio of height and weight that does not correspond to the norm can be due to quite understandable reasons, since all children are different, they also have differences in physical development. So, of course, you can rely on WHO data when analyzing the height and weight of the baby, but always taking into account individual indicators.

Adolescent height and weight standards

At 12-13 years old - a turning point in the life of a girl. If up to this point the height and weight of young ladies could approximately be equal to their male peers, then hormonal changes take place. This leads to a set of body weight, but it still gives lower rates than the norm for boys at the same time. Although there are exceptions.

10-11 or 12-13 years is far from a well-defined point when a girl reaches puberty. For many, this moment can happen much earlier: at 9-11 years old. Transition period characterized by the fact that nervous system works "for wear", trying to withstand hormonal changes. This explains many strange things in the behavior of adolescents: the denial of norms, the desire to commit rash acts, an increased need for communication.

Due to the fact that a girl at 10-11, 12-13 years old changes the ratio of hormones in the body, a jump in body weight can occur in one direction or another, and growth can increase. If the table shows overweight or its critical deficiency, you should sound the alarm. Lack of weight or height of a girl 10-11, 12-13 years old may indicate a slowdown in the development of the child (it is necessary to take into account hereditary factor: if mom and dad are thin, small in stature, then low rates may be due to this very factor), and obesity indicates hormonal disorder that needs to be treated.

A jump in height and weight in a girl at 11-13 years old can occur with the onset of menstruation. These will be quite normal indicators, which then normalize themselves. Parents should take a closer look at their child.

If adults still care normal weight and growth in adolescent girls 12-13 years old, the WHO organization invites them to calculate the body mass index. This method of calculation is also suitable for teenagers 10-11, 12-13 years old, and for babies up to a year old.

To do this, the growth rate is first squared. For example, 1.56x1.56=2.4. Then you should divide the weight indicator by the resulting number. Let's say the weight of teenagers is 19 kg. Divide 19 by 2.4. It turns out an indicator of 19.7 kg. According to the table, with a height of 1.56, the average normal weight should be 19-25 kg. The indicated number is within the limits set by WHO, but close to the critical point. For such a child from 10-11, 12-13 years old, it is worth observing, normalizing the diet and physical activity.

When to sound the alarm?

It should be remembered that the WHO figures for the lowest and highest highest point height and weight are constantly updated. Time goes by, ideas about fashion change and appearance person as a whole, therefore, the ratio of indicators will change.

For children in a few months, the norms will depend mainly on the type of nutrition of heredity. Here there is a danger of overfeeding the baby up to a year, if you switch to mixed feeding baby up to a year old. The pediatrician, of course, will pay attention if the child is malnourished for several months, but it is up to the parents to solve the problem with supplementary feeding. When breastfeeding, it is better to express your own milk and feed the baby in a few months than to risk switching to formula.

Unlike children under one year old, in adolescent girls, weight can fluctuate not only due to physiological reasons but also influenced by fashion. Most girls at this age are sure that they are too fat, and it becomes fashionable to go on a diet. Unfortunately, refusing to eat or building a menu incorrectly threatens with anorexia - weight loss with irreversible processes in the body. Parents should carefully observe girls at 10-11, 12-13 years old, share knowledge with them, and have the most trusting relationship.

WHO standards are not final verdict if the height or weight of your child at a few months or at 11-13 years old does not match them. However, this extra reason think and signal that something is wrong with the child. Based on WHO standards, it is possible to prevent the development of diseases that are not visible to the ordinary eye.

Below is a calculator for calculating the indicator of the child's weight.

Enter the child's gender, age and weight, click the "Show result" button and you will see a comparison of your child's weight with the standard encyclopedic normal.

But we know that it's just Comparative characteristics and nothing more. There is no longer a need to look at many tables and look for the necessary indicator among a huge number of numbers, it still doesn’t mean much, it’s better to spend this time on yourself :)).

Poor appetite in a child?

Baby weight

The ideal weight for a child or adult is always dictated by fashion. Throughout history, if a baby was thin, he was considered weak, and kids who were chubby or even fat were considered healthy. But these are just prejudices, if the child is happy, does not show signs of illness, then it does not matter how much the baby weighs, it is important that nothing interfere with his development.

During visits to the pediatrician, your child will be weighed, measured for height and other parameters. Weighings are made on accurate scales up to a gram. A baby up to a year old is weighed naked to accurately determine the weight.

Weigh-ins let you know how your little one is gaining weight, and you can compare your little one's results with the average child's body weight. Every baby develops differently, the most important is sustainable growth.

What is "normal" weight?

Normal weight is individual for each child. At an early age, children are very high speed growth, but everyone grows at their own pace. the baby may be smaller, heavier, plumper or thinner than other children of the same age and this is normal.

As a rule, the baby grows, while remaining in "normal" growth rates. Small changes are normal and occur mostly during the first 10 years of life.

Indicators that are in the intervals between "below average" and "above average" are considered to be the norm. I would like to add that the tables show the average values to which the pediatrician is trying to fit us. Therefore, if your baby does not fit into the average, do not worry, each baby is individual, there are a number of factors that affect the weight of the child.

early puberty

There has been a lot of talk lately about early puberty. The truth is that children today reach puberty earlier. Some scientists believe that the reason for this is an excess of hormones in animal feed or pesticides used to treat plants. However, it is possible that children eat well, and this affects faster maturation.

The problem of weight in a child, as a rule, arises as a result of an energy imbalance. When a child receives more calories than he needs for the lifestyle he leads, he begins to gain excess body weight. When a child receives fewer calories than he burns, he begins to lose weight. Children who consume the amount of calories required for their lifestyle do not usually have weight problems. The World Health Organization has identified the main causes of obesity:

  1. increased consumption of high-fat foods, and big amount calories;
  2. intake of too few nutrients;
  3. low physical activity.

Poor appetite in a child?

Let your child listen to the needs of his body. The child, as a rule, consumes the amount of food that is necessary to maintain and achieve such a height and weight that is normal ... for him. Adults around the baby should provide him favorable conditions to purchase healthy habits nutrition. Let the baby feel his signals of hunger and satiety, and the role of parents is manifested in the timely satisfaction of these needs.

Regardless of the weight of the child, it is necessary to apply the same strategy in eating, that is, to give him the opportunity to eat in accordance with the feeling of hunger. This The best way ensure that the child meets their energy needs and receives nutrients required for good growth.

Studies have shown that those babies who were given the opportunity to eat only when he wants, and not when his parents wanted it, have a good appetite. And in babies who early age tried to feed different ways“Just to eat”, then there are problems with appetite.

Parents are an example for their child. Starting from one year, the baby can eat the same food as the rest of the family. It is important to teach your child healthy eating habits early childhood. Children will then learn how to right choice in favor healthy eating when they grow up.

Three important things to help your kids develop healthy eating habits: regularity, variety, and taste.

Calculation of body surface area in children

BCA is the calculated or measured surface area of a person's body, which indicates the level of a person's metabolic rate.

BSA (body surface area in m2) = Square root(weight in kg * height in cm / 3600)

Average BCA values

Responsible parents strive to give their kids not only the most necessary for life, but also what they did not have in their childhood, what they dreamed about in the evenings in bed, getting ready for bed. Often adults are overcome by doubts about the correctness of the decisions made and are tormented by questions that should not remain unanswered. Closely monitoring the development and health of children, they understand that the harmonious physical development and good health children go hand in hand with other travel companions such as body weight and height.

six year olds

Today, six-year-olds are on the agenda, or rather, the weight of children at 6 years old and growth according to the norms established. However, it should be said: if any of the parents in this article finds some inconsistencies between the average statistics and reality, do not panic. Let this be just an excuse to contact the local pediatrician, who will advise and give competent recommendations.

A little about preschoolers

It is known that the period of growing up of a child, which falls on 6 years, is very important. A large number of physical and mental changes fall on it. Among them: loss of milk teeth, a strong spurt in growth and excessive interest in the opposite sex, the formation of gender identity. All these processes are absolutely normal and natural, but at such a difficult time, parental support and attention is very important for a child.

Due to the rapid rise in the mark, which can sometimes move up by 8-10 cm, and the formation of a new Hollywood smile in a baby, the body works in an enhanced mode, spending a large number of energy and useful resources. In the preschool period, it is necessary to significantly diversify the baby's diet and do not forget that it is important to keep the height and weight of a child under control at 6 years old. Moreover, these two indicators directly depend on each other.

Weight of children at 6 years old: WHO standards

It was noted above that it is not worth equating all children with the same brush. The result of the statistics is data collected on the basis of studies conducted in five countries. Living conditions, climate and genetic prerequisites are different everywhere. Weight indicators differ to some extent for everyone, so the general section on body weight of preschool children should be divided at least by gender, namely, the average parameters of boys and girls should be considered separately. For ease of perception, below are tables with data reflecting the essence of the question about the average weight of a child at 6 years old.

Averages for girls

The table shows that the limit from 20.2 to 21.2 kg is the normal weight of a child at 6 years old. A girl with such a body weight is considered the most correctly and harmoniously developed. If there is any deviation from the norm up or down, it is recommended to adjust the diet and add physical activity to the life of the growing beauty.

An underweight girl should be motivated to play sports. It helps to strengthen muscles, forms character and fighting spirit. Cycling, roller skating, dancing, winter sledding or long hiking the whole family is far from full list activities to keep kids entertained. All of these actions contribute good mood and correct child development. After physical activity, appetite wakes up, which is the main assistant in gaining the missing kilograms.

Proper nutrition for children

The diet of a preschooler should include healthy foods containing calcium, phosphorus and vitamins. Milk, cottage cheese, fish, meat, fruits, herbs and vegetables are considered mandatory, but you should stay away from sweets - sweets and chocolate. Excessive goodies and a large amount of sugar cause a feeling of laziness and relaxation, and this does not contribute to physical activity child. Parents of those girls who are overweight are advised to contact an endocrinologist.

This doctor is an expert on hormones, which in most cases are responsible for mass human body. It is a failure in their matrix that often leads to an excessive increase in volumes. If this is the problem, then it will be resolved when hormonal background normalizes. If the causes of overweight girls are rooted deep in the genealogical tree of the family, then the main recommendation is the sports load and proper nutrition. No sweets, greasy, fried and junk food: chips, soda, fast food.

Example useful products for a child, presented in the form of a pyramid, will help to create a delicious and varied menu for a six-year-old.

Boys weight 6 years

Consider the averages set by WHO.

  1. Power adjustment.
  2. Exercise stress. For a boy, sports equipment in the form of a Swedish wall and a horizontal bar should be constantly available, because it is important for a future man to grow up strong and hardy. This is an axiom.
  3. Contacting an endocrinologist in case of overweight for no apparent reason.

All children are very active by nature, but there is one aspect that makes them behave sedately, and sometimes even choose the position of an observer. This is the weight of the child. At the age of 6, the boy achieves certain changes in the physical plane, namely in coordination. During this period, a preschooler can successfully engage in hockey, football, tennis, swimming and other sports consciously, guided by the rules.

It is worth carefully monitoring the boy's body weight so that he can enjoy games and sports courage, and not turn into an outside observer. Parental example is very important for children. It is worth arranging family trips or hiking. This not only strengthens the body, toning the muscles, but also leaves happy memories in children's memory.

Weight of a child at 6 years old: the norm established by WHO

After a comparison between the two tables presented, we can conclude that the average weight of boys is only 0.5 kg different from that of girls. In other words, the body weight of a child, regardless of gender, which ranges from 20-22 kg, is considered the norm established by WHO. The main thing is to monitor the indicators, not letting the physical development of the child take its course.

Growth rates for children 6 years old

At the beginning of the article, it was said that not only the weight of children at 6 years old is a sign of health and harmonious development preschooler, but also his height. Body weight directly depends on this indicator, which doctors are guided by. This section will be devoted to this value, and for clarity, a table of the growth of children will be given in it. The figures in this summary are the result of WHO research.

This table of children's height shows that there is a difference between boys and girls at the age of six, but it is scanty and is only 1 cm, more precisely - 9 mm. It turns out that the basis of the average height of a six-year-old child, who is normally developed physically, can be taken as an indicator equal to 115-119 cm.

It often happens that some children are different from their peers. The child worries that he is below everyone in kindergarten or on the playground, and seeks advice from parents. This may not happen directly, but in countless children's questions regarding this aspect. An attentive family will be able to recognize anxiety and help a worried baby. Here are some tips to help your child stretch:

  • Correct daily routine. It is simply necessary for a growing organism that the mental and exercise stress was replaced by rest, so you should think about the competent organization of the child’s free time. It is necessary to accustom the baby to go to bed every day no later than 22:00. This good habit will not only promote growth, but also teach discipline.
  • Since Soviet times, it was believed that those who work on the horizontal bar can boast of high growth. Most likely, this is just an invention of grandmothers, but there is some truth in it. Sport is an integral part of proper physical development; without it, it is impossible to imagine strong and healthy children.
  • Pure mineral water and proper nutrition rich in vitamins, calcium and fibre. It is worth explaining to the child that it is very important to monitor nutrition. Junk food will expand, and useful will help to grow.

A few words in conclusion

Unfortunately, modern children prefer to devote all their free time to computer games and touch pads, not jump rope and ball games in the street. Toddlers and teenagers become sedentary, and this threatens with many problems, among which obesity is the scourge of the 21st century. By preventing the development of the disease from early childhood and accustoming the child to sports and proper nutrition, parents can be calm about the future of their offspring. Knowing the weight of children at 6 years old and the growth standards established by WHO, parents will be able to make the right decision in case of disagreement with real indicators. Forewarned is forearmed.
