Herbal medicines for oral administration. Useful properties of the product

Medicinal properties chokeberry, or chokeberry ( Aronia melanocarpa), so great that this berry can be called a real medicine created by nature itself. There are surprisingly few contraindications for a product with such high biological activity.

Compound

100 grams of fresh berries contains:

  • 156 kcal;
  • 14.2 g sugars;
  • 35% daily norm vitamin C;
  • 17% vitamin K;
  • 10% vitamin B6;
  • 10% manganese;
  • 9% potassium;
  • 7% vitamin A;
  • 5% magnesium, etc.

The medicinal properties of chokeberry are mainly explained by the presence of a significant amount of antioxidants in it. According to the ORAC indicator, which reflects the antioxidant activity of food products, these berries are significantly superior to many others, including such famous ones as.

The berries contain the most anthocyanins (1480 mg per 100 grams of product) and proanthocyanidins (the colorless variety of anthocyanin) - 664 mg per 100 g.

It also contains epicatechin, quercetin, caffeic acid, carotenes, malvidin, lutein, zeaxanthin, etc.

  • The second important component is plant fiber, of which these berries contain a lot. 100 grams of product contain 17 grams of fiber, which corresponds to 68% of the daily value.
  • Great importance They also have tannins that have good bactericidal properties.

Beneficial features

Unlike many other food products, for which we can only say that they have benefits, this berry is healing. Biological influence The components of chokeberry are so great that its properties are not just useful, they are medicinal. And there are many of them. The table shows only the main ones.

Prevention cancer diseases, especially bowel cancer. Improve blood circulation and strengthen blood vessels.
Treatment of hypertension. Preventing diabetes and improving blood sugar control.
Boosting immunity. Normalization of intestinal function and improvement of microflora.
Non-alcoholic treatment. Improving mental status, fighting depression.
Improvement lipid profile and prevention of atherosclerosis. Antiviral and antibacterial activity.
Reducing the level of inflammatory processes. Improvement appearance skin, increased collagen synthesis.
Prevention of early aging. Preservation of vision.
Protection against infections genitourinary system, improving sperm quality. Protection against oxidative brain damage and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases.

Does it increase or decrease blood pressure?

Not a single scientific research has been devoted to answering the question of whether chokeberry increases or decreases blood pressure.

The answer is lower. And quite significantly. With regular consumption of juice, it is possible to reduce the upper pressure by 15-20 units and the lower one by 10-15.

However biological mechanism The basis for this effect of the berry has not yet been established. It has been suggested that the hypotensive effect may be due to inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) or an increase in NO synthesis. It is likely that both work.

The presence of a sufficiently large amount of potassium necessary to maintain normal level blood pressure.

Is it weakening or strengthening?

The medicinal properties of chokeberry are such that they enable it to improve the condition of the intestinal microflora and promote the formation of bulky feces. Surprisingly, such qualities are useful for treating chronic diarrhea and eliminating constipation.

However, in case of acute diarrhea, berries, especially fresh ones, should not be consumed, as they can worsen the condition.

How does it affect weight loss?

Extremely positive.

  1. Slows down the process of lipogenesis (formation of new fat deposits) by reducing the activity of genes responsible for this process.
  2. Improves the functioning of intestinal microflora. This is important for sustainable weight loss, since when you gain extra pounds always happen pathological changes as part of the intestinal flora.
  3. Strengthens blood sugar control, preventing the development of insulin resistance, a condition that not only underlies the development of diabetes, but also leads to painful weight gain.
  4. Helps fight chronic inflammation, which occurs in the body of people who need to lose weight. And which provokes further weight gain.

It is remarkable that the beneficial properties of chokeberry are so great that you don’t need much of it to get the effect. And this makes it possible to minimize the amount of sugars that enter the body along with the berries.

Cleansing the body

The benefits of chokeberry in protecting the human body from xenobiotics (foreign compounds that are harmful to health) have been studied for decades. During this time, it was possible to prove that the berry is useful for protecting the body from such compounds as:

  • heavy metals;
  • alcohol;
  • tetrachloride carbohydrate;
  • nitroso compounds;
  • pesticides;
  • polyaromatic hydrocarbons;
  • toxic sulfur compounds;
  • methamphetamine;
  • Components tobacco smoke;
  • many medications, including those used for chemotherapy, etc.

How to use it correctly?

Whole berries contain significantly more antioxidants than juice. They also contain more plant fiber. Therefore, it is better to eat berries rather than juice. Dried, frozen or fresh.

In what quantity?

At the moment, there is no single scientifically based answer to this question.

There are two points of view.

According to the first, certain caution must be observed. Since there are not just a lot of antioxidants in chokeberry, but a lot. And an overdose of these biologically active compounds can be harmful to health.

  • chewing - 5-7 berries three times a day;
  • dried – 1 tablespoon per day;
  • juice – 200 ml per day;
  • extract – 300 mg per day.

However, other researchers completely disagree with this interpretation. And they believe that you can overdose on chokeberry only if you consume it in truly enormous doses, for example, drink at least 2 liters of juice daily.

When included wisely in the diet, there is no need to count the berries.

But in any case, certain rules exist.

  1. The berry should not be consumed with sugar, that is, it should not be used to make jam or bake pies. Because sugar only harms the body. And if you add it to useful product, then the benefit of this product will be significantly reduced. Therefore, the correct methods for preserving chokeberry for the winter are freezing, drying, but not grinding with sugar.
  2. The berry contains a lot of tannins, which can change the activity of drugs. Therefore, it is not recommended to eat it at the same time as taking medications.
  3. When taking drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 (must be indicated in the instructions for the medication), the use of chokeberry must be completely avoided, as it interferes with the functioning of this enzyme.
  4. Since the polyphenolic compounds of the berry form stable complexes with some important microelements (zinc, copper, iron), with regular and sufficiently large consumption of chokeberry, a shortage of these microelements may occur. Therefore, they need to be introduced into the body in additional quantities, for example, in the form of mineral complexes.

Contraindications

  • The berry contains a lot of oxalic acid, so contraindications for its regular use are urolithiasis and gout. As well as a predisposition to these diseases.
  • You should not lean on the berry if you have hypotension.
  • Should be avoided if you have allergies.
  • Not recommended for use in large quantities ah during pregnancy and breastfeeding, because its effect on fetal development and the quality of breast milk has not yet been studied.

Side effects

If chokeberry is allowed, then the main side effects after its massive consumption are unpleasant symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract (bloating, flatulence, pain in the abdominal area, etc.), due to the high fiber content and not posing a real threat to health.

Beneficial features and contraindications of chokeberry: conclusions

Chokeberry contains unusual a large number of antioxidants. There are so many of these biologically active compounds in the berry that it not only provides the body with some benefits, like most other fruits, it truly heals.

The medicinal properties of chokeberry are varied. The berry helps to get rid of excess weight and prevent diabetes, protects against heart, vascular and brain diseases, helps prevent cancer, etc.

The cleansing ability of chokeberry, as well as its rejuvenating properties, is of great importance.

Contraindications for inclusion in the diet are allergies, urolithiasis and gout, hypotension, as well as taking certain medications.

- disease caused by metabolic disorders nucleic acids. With this disease, the amount of uric acid. In cartilage, tendon sheaths, articular capsules crystals of sodium uric acid are deposited, and this leads to frequent attacks joint pain. Men over 40 years of age suffer from gout more often; it is observed quite rarely in women. The disease is often hereditary. There are cases where gout has affected members of the same family for several generations.

Factors such as overeating, poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyle, abuse of meat, alcohol, sour and spicy foods. The disease develops quite slowly. Changes in the joints are accompanied inflammatory reaction with further disruption of their structure and functions. More often the disease occurs in the form of attacks. An acute gout attack can begin at any time, but most often it occurs at night. Precursors of an attack may include symptoms such as mental depression, dyspepsia, and a feeling of discomfort. The attack begins with the appearance of severe pain in one or more joints (most often affected thumbs groans, small joints of the hands). The pain during an attack is so severe that the patient does not allow him to touch the affected joint. They are accompanied by swelling and redness of the skin over the joint. Sometimes it can even turn purple.

Common symptoms of the disease are fever up to 40°C, coated tongue, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, enlarged and painful liver. An acute gout attack usually lasts 3-4 days, then the pain gradually subsides and the patient's general condition improves. The frequency of attacks can vary - from several months to a year. Classic description Gout was given by the English physician Sydenham in 1683. He himself suffered from this disease, so his description most accurately reflects the patient’s condition: “The victim goes to bed and sleeps in perfect health. Around two o'clock in the morning she is awakened by severe pain in the area of the big toe, less often in the heel, ankle or instep. It is similar to the pain of a dislocation, but at the same time in places it feels as if they are being watered cold water. Then chills, trembling and slight fever begin. The pain, which was tolerable at first, is getting worse. As it intensifies, fever and chills increase. After some time, the condition reaches a peak and affects the bones and ligaments of the metatarsus and tarsus. Now this feeling of severe stretching and tearing of ligaments - It's a dull pain, alternating with periods of squeezing and compression. The feeling of pain in the affected area is so acute that the weight of bed linen and the sound of another person’s footsteps in the room become unbearable. The night passes in agony, wakefulness, turning of the sore limb, constant tossing and turning, tossing around the bed, incessant just as long as pain is felt in the exhausted joint; and all this only intensifies as the attack progresses. Hence the futile efforts to change the posture and position of the diseased limb in the hope of relieving the pain.” We can say that nothing has changed in the gout clinic over the past 300 years.

Chronic gout. After the first acute attacks, local changes disappear almost without a trace, but subsequently persistent changes in the diseased joint gradually increase. Such changes include limited mobility of the affected joint, changes in its shape and thickening. Soft fabrics around the joint are constantly swollen, the skin over them becomes thinner and may even break through. In this case, white masses of uric acid salt crystals are released through the resulting fistula. Numerous lesions of the joints occur, which lead to their deformation, contractures and subluxations.

Treatment. Most doctors recommend starting treatment for gout by changing your usual diet. Patients are recommended to eat a dairy-vegetable diet - sharply limiting meat, meat soups and broths, liver, brains, and kidneys. They are allowed to eat only small amounts of well-cooked meat and fish. Vegetables are prohibited. containing purines (sorrel, spinach, beans, radishes, peas, beans, lentils). Alcohol should be completely excluded from the diet. You should eat mainly dairy products: spoiled milk, kefir, whey, kumiss. Lemons, strawberries, gooseberries, and various root vegetables are useful fruits and vegetables. The main weapon of natural treatment is diet. English doctor Michael T. Murray, in The Natural Cure, writes: “Dietary treatments for gout sufferers consist of the following:
- stopping alcohol consumption;
- a diet low in purines (foods high in purines include the following: natural and canned meat, shellfish and crustaceans, yeast (brewer’s and food), herring, sardines, mackerel, anchovies, etc.):
- achieving ideal weight:
- increased consumption of complex carbohydrates.
- less fatty foods:
- less protein foods;
- more liquid;
- increased consumption of flavonoids (components of flavonoids are found in large quantities in fresh cherries, hawthorns, blueberries and other berries).

So, daily consumption is 200 g fresh fruits Cherries effectively reduce the level of uric acid in the body and prevent an attack of gout. Patients with gout need to move as much as possible, engage in light sports, and take long walks. At acute attacks For gout, you need to stay in bed, apply heat to the area of the affected joints, drink plenty of fluids, and take colchicum tincture (pharmaceutical drug) 20 drops 3-4 times a day orally. Traditional medicine recommends using the following herbs to treat gout: medicines.
If there is inflammation of the joints, the patient is advised to take any herbal medicines that have anti-inflammatory properties. Preparations of ginger and “devil’s claw” (grows in Africa) are especially useful.

In the treatment of joint diseases, it is especially important that medicinal substances plants influenced the underlying factors responsible for degeneration cartilage tissue. In the treatment of gout, plants with high level phytoestrogens content. “These plant substances are able to bind estrogen receptors on cartilage cells, thus preventing a reaction between the receptors and the body’s own estrogens. The fact that women predominate among patients with esteoarthritis suggests that estrogens may be involved. Scientific experiments have demonstrated that estrogen worsens osteoarthritis." Michael T. Murray.

For the treatment of arthritis, gout, and osteoarthritis, people have been using licorice root, alfalfa, fennel, celery, parsley, soybeans, nuts, apples, and organic cereals for a long time.
B.V. Bolotov in the book “I will teach you not to get sick and not to grow old” writes about the treatment of gout: “Gout used to be treated with damask grass. Kamchuga - in Old Russian it means stone, cobblestone. Gout is characterized by the presence of stones in the body, i.e. salts Coltsfoot grass used to be called coltsfoot grass. You need to consume the juice or crushed leaves along with salt. It is enough to take 1 tablespoon of ground herb an hour before meals, once a day for 2-3 months. Home remedies for gout

(from the experience of American doctors)
“Gout, which at one time was considered the disease of kings, is caused by the very plebeian uric acid. We all have it in our blood. But if you suffer from gout, you either develop too much of it, or you develop normal amount, but not enough is excreted,” says Dr. Branton Lechman, assistant professor clinical pharmacology at the University of South Carolina. “Be that as it may, excess uric acid turns into tiny crystals, which cause inflammation in your joints.” This excerpt taken from the book " house doctor"edited by Deborah Tkach (M.: Kron-Press. 1995). explains the emergence excruciating pain for gout.

American doctors recommend using a number of remedies in the fight against gout and simple ways, which can ease the severity of gouty pain and prevent the onset of an attack:
1. Taking concentrated cherry juice (1 tablespoon per day) or 200 g of cherries often prevents gout attacks.
2. Coal poultices. Charcoal has the ability to draw out toxins from the body. Mix 1/2 cup of activated charcoal powder with a few tablespoons of flaxseed. add some water to make a paste. and apply it to the sore joint. Cover the top with a cloth and leave overnight. In most cases, such a compress will stop an attack of gout or at least reduce the intensity of the pain.
3. " Activated carbon, taken orally, will help reduce uric acid levels in the blood, says Dr. Thrash. “Take 1/2 teaspoon 4 times daily, immediately upon waking, at noon, during the day, and before going to bed.” This simple remedy can prevent a gout attack.
4. During an acute attack, the affected joint should be kept in an elevated position, while maintaining complete rest.
5. Ice. Sometimes an ice bag placed on the sore joint reduces the intensity of the pain.
6. If pain occurs in the affected joint, you should take ibuprofen, but should not take aspirin.
7. Foods such as brains, heart, liver, kidneys, herring. anchovies, sardines, meat extracts, mussels, butter bread, fish, meat, poultry (containing a large amount of purines) can provoke an attack of gout. So, if possible, you should avoid eating these foods.
8. Dr. Robert H. Davis, professor of physiology, recommends drinking more ordinary water. Water flushes out excess uric acid from the blood and, in addition, prevents the formation of kidney stones. You should drink 6-8 glasses of water per day.
9. "If you have gout, avoid drinking alcohol," says Dr. Bree Stower, professor of pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh. It has long been known that alcohol increases the formation of uric acid in the body and makes it more difficult for it to be excreted. Alcohol consumption can be a trigger for a gout attack. It is especially undesirable to drink beer, as it contains greatest number purines.
10. Gout likes to attack a joint that was once injured, so try to protect the joints from bruises, blows and injuries.
11. Consistent consumption of herbal tea often helps prevent an attack of gout pain. According to American experts, herbal teas made from yarrow, rose hips, aralia, and peppermint have the greatest effect.
12. If you have high blood pressure, try not to abuse diuretins (diuretics), as they cause fluid loss, blood thickening and an increase in the concentration of purines in the blood, which can lead to an attack of gout.

To improve your gout condition, you should adhere to certain rules diets. The diet for gout must include fish (2-3 times a week), boiled meat (mainly beef), dairy products, eggs, cheese, berries (except raspberries), citrus fruits, fruits, vegetables (except pickled, salted), alkaline mineral waters.

It is advisable to spend a fasting day once a week, drinking only liquid. For example, fruit compote, diluted lemon juice (1:2), whey, kefir, lingonberry leaf tea. The condition will noticeably improve if you do this for several months. Because the body will gradually begin to cleanse itself of urates (uric acid salts) formed as a result of metabolic disorders. Gout worsens when cold, long walks, consumption of fats, alcohol, canned food, mushrooms, fried meat, foods containing uric acid (rhubarb, spinach, sorrel).

It is very effective to fast during an exacerbation for 4-7 days, taking a glass of fruit or fruit every two hours from 8 am to 8 pm. vegetable juice, diluted with boiled water (1:1), cleanse the intestines 1-2 times a day with an enema, arrange herbal baths for 2 weeks 3-4 times a week. After fasting for 3-4 days, you should switch to a full fruit diet for gout, then adhere to the recommended diet.

The nutrition menu for gout should preferably include: fresh cabbage in the form of salads, 100 grams of carrots with a tablespoon of vegetable oil. By the way, cabbage leaves applied to sore spots relieve gouty pain.

In spring, it is good to drink birch sap during the entire period of sap movement, half a glass 3-4 times a day.

The patient's condition is improved by the following composition: four lemons, peeled, grind 3 heads of garlic through a meat grinder, pour a liter of boiling water over the mixture, leave for a day, strain. Take 50 grams before meals once a day.

Herbal treatment for gout involves taking the herb brewed as a tea. If you sleep on a mattress stuffed with fresh fern leaves, the pain will subside very quickly.

May birch leaf: brew a glass of boiling water tsp. birch leaves, leave for 20 minutes. For 2 weeks, drink a quarter glass three times a day.

Foot baths made from ivy borax are useful for gout: pour 3 liters of boiling water over 100 grams of herb. 10-15 minutes is the duration of one procedure. The course of treatment for gout is 12 baths every other day.
