Herbs... tea... thyme...
I was “walking” through the expanses of LiveJournal and came across a mention of thyme. I decided to go a little deeper. And later, I’ll write about Koporye (Fireweed) tea.

Thyme is a man's friend

Thyme has many names, including local names, the most famous being thyme. It is also called the Herb of the Theotokos (on the day of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, Orthodox Christians decorated icons of the Mother of God with thyme). IN Ancient Greece thyme was called incense and it was used by priests during their rituals and fortune-telling. A thyme wreath was considered a symbol of fertility.

Later, European magicians and sorcerers, and Slavic healers, took over the tradition of the ancient Greeks. Thyme was endowed with properties to protect against damage, evil spirits and other evil spirits. Both living and dead (the body of the deceased in a coffin in some regions of the Caucasus is covered with thyme). Both during wakefulness (sewn into amulet) and during sleep (into a pillow). Thyme was also used in love magic.

In many Russian provinces, thyme is recognized as universal medicine almost from everything. Its effect is due to its constituent essential oils, tannins, and organic acids. Thyme charmed ancient and modern sorcerers with its essential oil, which is now sold in any pharmacy. By the way, this oil has a pronounced antiseptic and relaxing effect.

In folk and official medicine thyme has found a wide variety of uses. Thyme is an excellent bactericidal agent; in addition, it also has anticonvulsant, sedative, analgesic, wound healing and anthelmintic effect. There are also traces of vitamins in thyme. It is very important that thyme has no contraindications, unlike most herbs, for example St. John's wort, which should not be taken long time(alkaloids may harm the liver). Thyme cannot be replaced in the treatment of respiratory organs. The famous inventor Vladimir Frolov, author, wrote about him more than once unique technique and a unique simulator.

Thyme is included in preparations used in the treatment of bronchial asthma, tuberculosis, acute and chronic diseases respiratory tract, bronchitis, cough, neuralgia, various neuroses, as a diuretic and antihypertensive agent, influenza, insomnia, kidney inflammation and Bladder, with intestinal parasitic diseases, herpes and many other diseases.
Regarding treatment and prevention male diseases, including prostatitis, impotence, then I would recommend the following:
- regularly drink an infusion containing thyme as tea. For example, 1 table spoon of oregano, 1 table spoon of mint, 3-4 tablespoons of thyme. We fall asleep in a thermos. Pour boiling water over everything. We keep it overnight and drink it the next day. In addition to thyme, we periodically change the ingredients and add rose hips, St. John's wort, linden, etc. My grandmother taught me this. We drank tea only in the morning and evening, and during the day some infusion that included thyme.
— Baths with thyme. Boil thyme, you can use other herbs. Filter into the bath too. Sit, lie down, enjoy. If there is not enough thyme, use it in a basin.
— Rubbing thyme oil into the perineum area and other points. Stimulates biologically active points, stimulates internal energy. You can make your own butter. To do this, pour deodorized thyme herb vegetable oil(if you have money, you can use olive oil) and let it steep for a month. In general, the more it costs, the better. We filter when we take the next portion. You can, of course, get pure thyme essential oil. But for this you need to use something like a moonshine still. We grind the raw materials, dissolve them in water, and distill them.
- Eat thyme. This is a kind of seasoning. Good with fish and fatty dishes. It is useful for men, since the zinc contained in thyme has a positive effect on sexual function.
— Keep thyme indoors where you are, especially when sleeping. The volatile substances contained in the essential oil have an antiseptic and tonic effect. Thanks to this, many pathogenic microbes are destroyed, and sleep becomes much healthier. If it is necessary to enhance the cleansing effect of thyme, then the thyme grass is set on fire to release essential particles, as the priests of Ancient Greece did in their time. True, the smell is specific.
And don’t forget that the raw material is the above-ground part of plants, which is collected during flowering.

Good afternoon, dear visitors!

Many have heard such names - thyme, thyme, Bogorodskaya grass, chabor (in Belarusian). But not everyone knows that we're talking about about the same plant.

Thyme or thyme

It’s up to you to decide what to call it. This plant is known for its remarkable properties since ancient times, and is famous for its healing power and aroma.

The aroma of thyme is clearly audible in the places where it grows. Here is how the classic of Belarusian poetry Petrus Brovka wrote about him:

I think that the words of the classic are not accidental. The aroma of the plant is remembered for a long time.

Thyme can grow in the forest, and in meadows, and on hills, and in parks, and in flower beds as an ornamental plant, and in a vegetable garden as a spice; I even met it in Berlin at the memorial to the Soldier-Liberator.

Thyme is called in Latin Thymus serpyllum- creeping thyme. Thymus in translation means force, and in fact, this plant gives strength and self-confidence, and returns health to the weak and sick.

And in anatomy, the thymus gland is called the thymus gland, which is responsible for immunity.

This is a perennial subshrub of the Lamiaceae family with a creeping stem up to 35 cm high. Small flowers lilac color collected in loose capitate inflorescences. Blooms in June-August.

It propagates both by seeds and vegetatively. The creeping stems take root and the bush grows due to this.

In nature there are very a large number of species of this plant. Depending on the type and place of growth, the smell of the plant and its properties differ.

Thyme is a very good honey plant. Thyme honey is very fragrant and healing. True, in our conditions in pure form There is no thyme honey because there are no thyme plantations. Bees collect honey from everything that grows nearby.

Thyme is also called thyme, Bogorodskaya herb, or chabor in Belarusian.

There is also a garden form of thyme. A couple of years ago I sowed this in the garden, now fresh leaves of fragrant greenery are always at hand.

It is too perennial, but the flowers are smaller and whiter. And the aroma is very similar to the familiar smell of thyme.

Garden savory.

Garden savory is also used as a medicinal and spicy crop. I thought that this was a variety of thyme, but I read in the encyclopedia that it is a little different plants, although they have similar properties.

Garden savory

Garden savory – annual plant. In Latin it is called natureja. It is taller than thyme, the flowers are smaller, the stem and inflorescence are more elongated and larger.

Sows seeds in spring. Used as a spice and seasoning. But the aromas and healing properties of these plants are very similar.

Useful properties of thyme and savory.

The healing properties of thyme have been known to people for a long time. While preparing the article, I looked into the ancient treatise by Odo of Mena “On the Benefits of Herbs.” By the way, a very interesting thing. I found a description there medicinal properties thyme, here is a short excerpt:

Thyme has very strong anti-inflammatory properties. And that's why. Basic active ingredients thyme and savory - thymol and quacrol. These components are classified as phenols.

And phenols are strong bactericidal substances, just remember the most famous phenol-carbolic acid (carbolic acid), which was previously widely used for disinfection.

But unlike carbolic acid, thymol and quacrol act more gently on the mucous membranes, do not irritate them, but depress them even more pathogenic microflora. By the way, during the First World War, thyme was used to replace carbolic acid in hospitals.

Highest content useful substances Contained in creeping thyme essential oil. And the oil itself is added to many medicines - creams, ointments, mixtures.

It is no coincidence that thyme is called thymus in Latin, and the thymus gland, which is responsible for immunity, is also thymus. The name itself suggests that thyme strengthens the immune system.

IN folk medicine Thyme decoction is taken for coughs, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, tuberculosis, sore throat. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anticonvulsant, and wound-healing effects.

Relieves spasms in gastrointestinal tract, regulates digestion, is effective against bloating, improves appetite.

Of particular note is the property of thyme to relieve cravings for alcohol in people with alcohol addiction.

The active substances contained in thyme paralyze the muscles of worms, so the plant is used as an anthelmintic.

Considering the strong anti-inflammatory properties of thyme, decoctions and infusions of this plant will help with various inflammatory processes, diseases of the ENT organs, pain in the joints, muscles, and neuralgia.

Herbal decoctions are also recommended for inflammatory processes in the genital area in both men and women.

Savory also has healing properties. Here is a short excerpt from the same treatise on the health benefits of savory:

Both thyme and savory have many similar properties, this is also stated in the treatise:

So forest or meadow thyme can be completely replaced with garden savory, because the strength is equal in both.

Use of thyme.

The experience of traditional medicine has also been adopted in pharmacology. The most popular expectorant in my childhood was Pertusin, or liquid extract thyme. It is also widely used in other mixtures and tinctures, and is also used in homeopathic practice.

In the Vivasan company, one of the most popular products is Thyme cream, which is excellent as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent for a number of problems, even for small children.

Thyme essential oil is very popular. And what’s great is that thyme essential oil can help even in cases where microbes are no longer sensitive to antibiotics and treatment has no effect.

Modern man finds it difficult to believe that grass can be more effective than medicine, after all, it’s easier and more common to take a pill than to prepare a decoction, especially every day, and even for several months. And herbs effectively help with regular and systemic use.

How to prepare thyme.

Thyme is collected in the summer during flowering. You need to cut the branches with scissors so as not to uproot the plant.

The collected raw materials should be dried in the shade in a ventilated area or under a canopy.

After drying, you can knead the leaves with your hands, free them from the branches and store them in this form in a tightly closed jar.

After this, strain the oil and use it for skin care. It will help well with inflamed skin, eczema, peeling, cracks. Can also be used to treat mouth ulcers.

Thyme for skin and hair.

Since thyme has strong anti-inflammatory properties, this plant is widely used in cosmetology. Extracts and infusions of the herb strengthen hair well, so thyme extract is added to balms, shampoos, and hair masks.

A decoction of the herb can be added to water when rinsing hair. Brew 3-4 tbsp in half a liter of water. spoons of herb, rinse your hair and rub into the roots. Don't wash it off! Strengthens hair well and removes dandruff.

The same infusion is good for wiping inflamed skin prone to pimples and acne.

But it's even easier to use for cosmetic purposes thyme essential oil. You can add it to face and hair masks, baths, and enrich cosmetics with it.
