Calorie content of pearl barley

The calorie content of the cereal is 320 kcal (dry). The energy value of the porridge depends on the duration of cooking.

In a slow cooker, cereals can be cooked without soaking. This approach will save time and preserve maximum nutrients. In an hour, the pearl barley will boil and increase in volume by 4 times. As a result, from ½ cup of dry cereal you will get almost 500 g of porridge. And this is only 250 kcal.

How to cook pearl barley

  1. Soak the cereal for 10–12 hours. Can be left overnight. During this time, its mass will increase significantly.
  2. In the morning we wash the pearl barley.
  3. Transfer to a saucepan and cook for 20–25 minutes.

    We remind you that salt and sugar cannot be added to porridge. Otherwise, weight loss will not happen.

  4. In a slow cooker, the porridge takes 1 hour to cook and does not require pre-soaking.

Making a menu for weight loss

  • A serving of pearl barley porridge can be supplemented with boiled beets, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as finely chopped cauliflower.
  • Steam sea fish twice a week.
  • Those with a sweet tooth can diversify their diet with fruits containing fiber. These include pears, avocados, grapefruits and bananas. We remove the skin from the fruit, and put the pulp into a blender for subsequent grinding and turning into puree.

  • For breakfast you can eat an omelet made from milk and one egg (120 kcal). But other meals should include barley.

Prohibited foods that should not be consumed with barley while losing weight

  1. Raw vegetables and fruits containing coarse fiber. Their simultaneous use with pearl barley causes abdominal pain and constipation.
  2. Bran, dried fruits, black bread and juices with pulp.
  3. Dairy products made from acidophilus starter culture. If you consume barley at the same time as yogurt or kefir, severe gas formation may occur.

Recipe No. 1. Barley soup

Product set:

  • 2–3 potatoes;
  • 1.5 liters of vegetable broth;
  • A glass of pearl barley;
  • Medium bulb;
  • Two carrots;
  • A bunch of parsley;
  • Bay leaf – 2 leaves;
  • Spices.

How to make pearl barley soup:

  1. Peel the onions and carrots. Place them whole in a saucepan with water. Cook until done. The result is a flavorful vegetable broth. We take out the carrots and onions and throw them away.
  2. Pour pearl barley into a bowl. Pour boiling water over it. Leave for half an hour, covering with a lid. During this time it will soften, which means it will cook faster. After 30 minutes, add the cereal to the boiling broth. We time it for 8–10 minutes.
  3. Wash and peel the second carrot and potatoes. Cut them into cubes and put them in the soup. Cook for 20 minutes. Add a little salt. Pour the soup into bowls, sprinkle with chopped herbs.

Recipe No. 2. Barley with raisins in a slow cooker without soaking

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pearl barley,
  • a handful of raisins,
  • 3 glasses of cold water,
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt.


Preparation:

  1. Rinse the pearl barley in several waters (3-5 times).
  2. Clean the raisins from debris and leave to soak for 15 minutes in boiling water.
  3. Then drain the water from the pearl barley, put the cereal in the slow cooker and fill it with 3 glasses of fresh water.
  4. Add the swollen raisins and salt there. Stir and set to “Buckwheat” mode for 1 hour.

Ingredients:

  • Medium bulb.
  • 2/3 cup pearl barley.
  • 500 g tilapia fillet.

  1. We wash the cereal. Pour it into a plate.
  2. Remove the skins from the onion. Cut the pulp into large pieces.

  1. Roast the whole peppers in the oven. It will take no more than 20 minutes. Then we take it out and cut it into thin rings.
  2. Wash zucchini and eggplant with water. Remove the tails and leaves. They need to be cut into circles. Place in a frying pan and fry using olive oil.
  3. Slice the tomatoes. Remove the skins from the onions and garlic. Grind them (preferably into cubes).
  4. Place tomatoes, onions and garlic in a blender. Pour the resulting sauce into a bowl. Add a little olive oil and spices there.
  5. We take a large and flat salad bowl. Place the first layer of boiled pearl barley. Then come the vegetables. Let's water it all tomato sauce. The final layer will be grated cheese.

Recipe No. 5. Barley with mushrooms

Required Products:

  • 50 g hard cheese;
  • 1/3 glass of white wine (preferably semi-dry);
  • garlic – 4 cloves;
  • medium bulb;
  • 150 g mushrooms;
  • greenery;
  • 100 g butter (optional);
  • 300 g pearl barley;
  • 500 ml vegetable broth;
  • a little vegetable oil.


Cooking process:

  1. Wash the cereal and soak overnight. This will reduce its cooking time to 1 hour. In the morning, drain the remaining liquid and transfer the cereal to a plate.
  2. Peel the onion. We grind it. Fry in a frying pan using vegetable oil. As soon as the onion acquires a pleasant golden hue, you can add chopped garlic to it. Fry for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour pearl barley into the frying pan. Pour in white wine. Then mix the ingredients. Gradually add hot vegetable broth. When the porridge swells, you can add the next ingredient - chopped mushrooms. Mix again. Simmer until the mushrooms are ready. To complete the process, add salt and pepper. Place pearl barley with mushrooms on a plate. Sprinkle grated cheese on top of the dish and decorate with dill sprigs.
